The 4-1 defeat suffered by Botafogo reverberated internally in Flamengo's politics. In conversations in a WhatsApp group, supporters of current president Rodolfo Landim did not hold back their words and criticized the lack of Financial Fair Play in Brazilian football.
The information was first published on the Goal portal. Landim openly said that Botafogo spent more than its revenue last year and was ironic when addressing black and white investment.
"I think that this year alone they have already invested 75 million euros (around R$450 million), that is, approximately the number you presented as being since 2021. This for a club that had a turnover of R$322 million last year. Welcome to the times of. SAF without financial fair play", wrote Landim, in the group.
This is not the first time that the subject of Financial Fair Play has been the subject of comments by the President of Flamengo . Landim spoke to the Mundo GV podcast, by former Flamengo goalkeeper Getúlio Vargas, about the issue and his relationship with the owner of SAF Botafoguense, John Textor.

If we were to see the amount that Botafogo invested in acquiring athletes this year, I imagine that this amount was much higher than the revenue. of Botafogo last year, for example. Today, Brazilian football is still very unregulated in this aspect, these are things that we need to seriously discuss for the future", he pointed out.
Botafogo is the club that invested the most in signings in the 2024 season. The signings of Tiago Almada and Luiz Henrique were, nominally, the most expensive in the history of Brazilian football .
