In a recent interview with the Mundo GV podcast, Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, raised concerns about Botafogo's growing investment , under the management of John Textor. Landim, known for his good relationship with the American businessman, highlighted the need for a more in-depth discussion on financial fair play in Brazilian football.

HIGH INVESTMENTS AND CRITICISM OF LANDIM

John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo, has made significant investments in the club, bringing in prominent players such as Tiago Almadra, Luiz Henrique, Tiquinho Soares and Igor Jesus.

These high investments, however, have generated discomfort in other national clubs, including Flamengo. Rodolfo Landim, despite maintaining a friendly relationship with Textor, expressed his concerns about the impact of these expenses on the financial balance of the competition.

“I have a good relationship with him, but I believe we will have to discuss some points in soon, if you continue to make large investments. The amount invested by Botafogo this year appears to be much higher than the club's revenue last year”, stated Landim.

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY SUPPORT

Landim emphasized the importance of establishing stricter financial fair play rules to guarantee equity in football. According to him, in the absence of a more efficient regulatory system, such as financial fair play, high investments by clubs like Botafogo could create harmful imbalances.

“If there were financial fair play rules in force, such investments would not be possible. Brazilian football still lacks more robust regulation in this aspect. We need to seriously discuss these issues to guarantee a more balanced future”, concluded Landim.
