In his fifth consecutive season in Germany, Iago is already thinking about the future. The left-back, who was revealed by Internacional, entered the final year of his contract with Augsburg and revealed that he aroused the interest of major Brazilian clubs. Among them are the Rio Grande do Sul team itself, Flamengo, and rivals Palmeiras and Corinthians.

The 26-year-old player spoke to the ge portal and discussed his moment at the German club and his prospects for the near future. Iago has not confirmed a return to Brazil in 2024, but has expressed his willingness to consider all opportunities that arise. However, he remains focused on his career in European football.

– There were some conversations and speculations about the interest of Brazilian teams, including Flamengo, Palmeiras, Corinthians and Inter. However, at this point, I am evaluating all options and making decisions calmly. My future in football is not yet defined and I am considering all the possibilities that arise, whether in Brazil or in Europe – he revealed.


Iago, who came up through Internacional's youth categories, was promoted to the main team in 2017. During around two years working as a professional player for the club, he participated in 80 matches with the Colorado shirt, contributing with two goals and two assists. In mid-2019, he was signed by Augsburg, where he remains to date.


In four seasons in Germany, Iago made more than 80 appearances for the club, between the Bundesliga and the country's cup. The player highlighted the good recognition from the fans, local press and club during this period.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.



Following is the Red and Black lineup:Rossi, Varela, Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira and Alex Sandro; Pulgar, De la Cruz, Gerson and Arrascaeta; Plata and Bruno Henrique.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."
