Flamengo had some bad news on Wednesday night (04). Striker Pedro had a rupture of the anterior ligament of his left knee and will be out until 2025. Due to the injury, Mais Querido is already moving in the market to replace the loss of the striker and, according to journalist Fabrício Romano, is keeping an eye on Anthony Martial, ex -Manchester United.

The Frenchman, however, is no stranger to injuries. According to 'Transfermarkt', Anthony Martial has already missed 100 matches due to the injuries he suffered, from muscle problems, to even ruptured ligaments, the same injury that Pedro suffered in training for the Brazilian team.

According to the website, Martial was away from his clubs for 556 days due to to injuries, which is equivalent to a year and a half of his career injured. The player has been without a club since his contract with Manchester United ended at the end of the 2023/24 season. Martial spent most of his career with the Red Devils and arrived with great promise in 2015, but never reached the expected level.

Last season the striker was not used much by coach Erik Ten Hag. The player appeared in just 19 games and scored two goals. In eight seasons at United, the athlete participated in 317 games, scored 90 goals and provided 47 assists.

For the English club, he was champion of the FA Cup, the English Super Cup and the Europa League and twice in the English League Cup. With the French national team, Martial won the Nations League in 2021.

In the current FIFA Date, the Brazilian team has two former players from Flamengo: Gerson and João Gomes. Both were called up by Dorival Júnior to join the national squad, allowing them to share the same environment in Brazil's main team. Gerson, who now plays for Olympique Marseille, and João Gomes, from Wolverhampton, are reuniting after a period without playing together. In the past, the duo had some opportunities to play for Flamengo, but their paths separated in 2021.

Gerson left for the French club and João Gomes went to European football, being transferred to Wolverhampton at the beginning of 2023 for a record transfer of almost 103 million reais. Recently, João Gomes used his social networks to share a special moment with Gerson during the Brazilian team's training. In a photo posted, the two players appear together, and the Flamengo midfielder, when reposting the image, made a point of leaving a clear message: “Maximum respect”.

OFF THE FIELD PARTNERSHIP

This gesture reflects the respect and camaraderie that remains between the two athletes, despite their different trajectories in European football. During the friendly against Ecuador, held at Couto Pereira in Curitiba, Gerson and João Gomes started the match on the bench. However, both were called upon by coach Dorival Júnior throughout the game. This participation demonstrates that, despite being at different clubs, Gerson and João Gomes continue to be important players for the Brazilian team.

Coexistence in the team is an opportunity for the two midfielders to reevaluate and strengthen their bonds. Daily interaction during training and matches Selectionis a chance to reconnect and show the quality that brought them to the international stage. While Gerson tries to establish himself as a key player for the Brazilian team, João Gomes is looking to solidify his role in the national team, having recently established himself as a key player for Wolverhampton. Both have the challenge of standing out and becoming viable options for coach Dorival Júnior, with internal competition being an additional factor in the evolution of their careers.

In training on Monday and Tuesday, Flamengowill face a series of challenges due to the absence of important players. Coach Tite will not be able to count on Gerson and Fabrício Bruno, both called up for the Brazilian team, in addition to Erick Pulgar, who is with the Chilean team, and Varela, who represents Uruguay. These players will be involved in the World Cup qualifiers, with the games scheduled for Tuesday. They will join Flamengo again on Wednesday, after the international matches.

This situation directly affects the team's preparation for the decisive game that will take place on Thursday, at 9:45 pm (Brasília time). Flamengo will face Bahia in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. In the first match, Rubro-Negro won a narrow 1-0 victory. Therefore, the Rio team needs to maintain its good performance to guarantee classification for the semi-finals.

A NEW CHALLENGE
A NEW CHALLENGE

The scenario is challenging, especially because the Flamengowill have to deal with the absence of key players at a crucial moment in the competition. The coaching team and cast need to adapt quickly to changes and adjust their strategy to compensate for absences. The integration of the players who will return from the national teams and the performance of those who will be available on Thursday will be decisive for Flamengo's success in this stage of the Copa do Brasil.

Flamengo is facing a delicate moment following the serious injury to striker Pedro's left knee, which will sideline him until the end of the season. With this significant loss, the club's management began the search for a new center forward, focusing on players without a contract. The priority is to find a replacement for the number 9 shirt that meets the club's financial and performance criteria.

Among the guidelines established by the red-black board for choosing a new striker are the assessment of costs and the recent history of inactivity. Many players available on the market have not played for periods longer than two months or face a history of injuries, which makes the selection process even more careful.

< b>NAMES ON FLAMENGO'S RADAR

Some names have already been offered to Flamengo, including Anthony Martial, ex-Manchester United, Mariano Díaz, ex-Real Madrid, and Memphis Depay, ex-Barcelona. These athletes, despite having extensive experience in European football, also present challenges, such as high costs and periods of inactivity that can influence immediate performance.

CONCENTRATION ON THE GAME AGAINST BAHIA

While the board works behind the scenes to ensure the arrival of a new center forward, the red and black squad remains focused on preparing for the clash against Bahia. The game, valid for the Copa do Brasil, will be held next Thursday (12), at 9:45 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The match is crucial for Flamengo's hopes for the season.
