This Monday (21), the red-and-black gymnast Rebeca Andrade won the Laureus Award in the “Best Comeback of the Year” category , becoming the first Brazilian athlete to win the “Oscar of Sports” , which this year completed its 25th edition. The award ceremony took place in the city of Madrid, Spain, and was attended by several celebrities from the world of sports.
After going through a series of knee injuries , Rebeca Andrade overcame all difficulties and managed to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics at a high level, winning four medals for Brazil: one gold (Solo,), two silvers (Individual All-Around and Vault) and one bronze (Team). The red-and-black received the statuette from the hands of five-time world champion Cafu and spoke some very emotional words.
I'm happy to be a great reference for the generations to come and for people in general, of strength, of showing that we can achieve our goals"
“I feel very happy and honored to receive my first Laureus. I am proud and blessed by the team I have and the family I have. They believed in me even when I didn’t. I would like to give a special thanks to someone who is here with us tonight, who was a very important part of getting the world to know me, not only as an athlete, but as a person as well: Aline (Wolff), my psychologist. I want to thank her for her work, companionship, and care during my period of injuries. I am happy to be a great role model for future generations and for people in general, for showing that we can achieve our goals, regardless of where we come from,” said the gymnast.
