For Rebeca Andrade, gymnastics is so natural that she can practically do the exercises with her eyes closed! As incredible as it may seem, this statement is not that far from reality. The Flamengo gymnast recently revealed that she cannot see her devices completely during competitions, because she prefers not to wear her contact lenses.

"I don't like using lenses, because I'm afraid of getting magnesium in my eyes and getting in the way. I can't see (the beam, a device that is only 10 centimeters wide). I go by feeling", said the Olympic medalist on last Friday (15), in an interview on the program "Ça Va Paris", on SporTV. Just before her participation in the program, the athlete received the King Pelé trophy from the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), classifying her as 'Athlete of the year'.

Magnesium carbonate, a powder used by gymnasts, helps increase grip on equipment. With anti-humectant action, magnesium carbonate reduces the slippery sensation during acrobatics and absorbs sweat, preventing athletes from slipping when performing exercises.

Rebeca also pointed out that the 'lack of vision' helps her emotionally: "When I see (the devices) well, I get scared. I've tried it and I get scared. When magnesium gets in the eye, it doesn't work, It's very bad. If I'm wearing a lens, that's it. I'd rather not risk it."

Winning the award was a great ending to Rebeca's historic year. At the World Championships, there were five medals (one gold, three silver and one bronze). At the Pan American Games in Santiago, she gave up the floor and individual all-around competitions, but still won four medals (two golds and two silvers).
