Midfielder Renato Augusto expressed dissatisfaction with the result of the classic between Flamengo and Fluminense at Maracanã, this Sunday (25). According to Renato, the score does not reflect what the game was like. In the midfielder's opinion, Fluminense tried more for the goal, but ended up being hampered by counterattacks, which resulted in the defeat against Mengão.

“A slightly unfair result. We tried a little more, they came out on the counterattack, hit two balls and scored the goals. We also knew the physical wear and tear we would have in the game. But it's a start of work. Of course, you reaching a decision (against LDU), coming from a defeat in the classic, is not good, but we have great confidence in the work”, said Renato.

Continuing his argument , Renato also admitted that he has not yet managed to fully assimilate coach Fernando Diniz's ideas. The player has been at Corinthians since 2021 and only arrived at Fluminense at the beginning of this year. In Rio, Renato Augusto also had spells at Flamengo, the club where he was formed at the base and won titles in the Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Carioca.

UNLIKE RENATO, DINIZ AGREE WITH FLAMENGO'S VICTORY

After Fluminense's defeat to Flamengo, coach Fernando Diniz recognized the superiority of Tite's team and stated in a press conference that Mengão deserved the victory in the classic. Additionally, he praised the refereeing for correctly canceling a Tricolor goal.

“In the first half, we managed to play a balanced match due to the possible conditions. Flamengo deserved it, it was a fair victory. I think the refereeing did very well today, it interfered little in the game (…) We only prepared this team for one day to play, but it was an important match, we needed to win to have a chance of winning the Guanabara Cup”, evaluated Diniz.

Fluminense is going through a complicated phase when it comes to facing the Flamengo. In the last three clashes, the tricolor team failed to score any shots on the red-black goal, totaling 325 minutes, including stoppage time. The lack of successful submissions has been going on since the 10th round of the Guanabara Cup, on February 24th. This data reveals a serious problem in Fluminense's attack, which needs to find ways to be more efficient against its biggest rival.

The data is impressive due to Fluminense's lack of offensive precision in recent classics against Flamengo. The last successful shot occurred almost four months ago, and since then, the team has failed to create great scoring opportunities, which reflects the lack of positive results in these clashes. This lack of finishes worries both the fans and the technical committee, who are looking for alternatives to reverse this situation and return to being competitive in the classics.

FLAMENGO HAS A COMPLETE "ANNOUNCEMENT" AGAINST FLUMINENSE

In the three games without clear shots, Flamengo knew how to defend itself well and neutralize the tricolor attacks. The red and black marking was efficient, and the lack of creativity in Fluminense's attack was evident. The team was unable to break through the opponent's block, and even their shot attempts from outside the area were not successful. The lack of shots reflects a deeper problem in the team's offensive scheme, which needs to be adjusted.

This difficulty in finding the goal also had a direct impact on the classification of the competitions played. Without being able to beat their rival, Fluminense saw Flamengo gain important points and stand out in the tables. This situation generates a climate of dissatisfaction among tricolor fans, who expect a quick response from the team to change this scenario. Expectations are high, and the demand for better performances in the classics is high.
