After Flamengo raised R$26 million in the Copa do Brasil final, the Libertadores final surpassed that mark. The game between Boca Juniors and Fluminense in the final of the South American competition, held at Maracanã, reached the mark of R$ 31 million raised in the decision.

In the first leg of the grand final of the Copa do Brasil, Nação Rubro Negra was present in force. There were more than 67 thousand fans at the Holy Temple, while 60 thousand were paying fans. Due to the abusive prices imposed by the Mais Querido board, this number of fans was enough to break the Brazilian football attendance record.

Conmebol, on the other hand, used a different strategy. While the cheapest ticket for the Copa do Brasil final cost R$400, entry for the Libertadores cost from R$130. The difference was that Rubro Negro applied high prices, but with discounts for members - fans. The South American entity was unable to apply such discounts as the decision field was neutral.

Even with more than 69 thousand fans, Fluminense x Boca Juniors is behind Flamengo x Independiente Del Valle. The match valid for the Recopa Sul - Americana 2023 decision received 71,411 fans. As the hosts, Nação Rubro Negra was a large majority in this historic audience.

As everyone knows, the ending was not a happy one for Flamengo, even though they were in front of their fans. Mais Querido needed to win 2-0 to take the title, as they had lost in the first game, 1-0. However, on penalties, Rubro Negro couldn't be better and lost.

Several Uruguayan newspapers covered the tie between Flamengo and Vasco this Sunday (15). Among the main vehicles, “El País” and “Montevidéu Portal” highlighted that Luiz Araújo left the classic with a possible knee injury and could be absent for Rubro-Negro in the first game of the Libertadores quarter-finals against Peñarol, next Thursday (19).

Luiz Araújo played just 18 minutes in the classic. The attacker felt his knee after a challenge with a Vasco defender and even tried to continue on the field, but ended up being replaced by Arrascaeta. At half-time, Flamengo issued a statement informing that the player will be re-evaluated by the medical department at Ninho do Urubu. The squad will be presented again this Monday afternoon (16).

Uruguayan newspapers consider the possible absence of Luiz Araújo a big problem for Mengão. The athlete is a starter in Tite's team, with the most matches for Flamengo this season (50) and leader in assists (10).

The newspaper 'El País' classified the player as a key player for the team: “The injury to Luiz Araújo, one of the most important players in Mengão's squad, expands the list of injured players just a few days before the clash against Peñarol in the Copa Libertadores.”

The 'Montevideo Portal' followed the same line, highlighting the importance of the striker: “In addition to the result, another bad news for Peñarol's next rival in the Copa Libertadores it was the departure of Luiz Araújo. The fast right-winger, starter for Flamengo, felt pain in his right knee after a blow.”

Currently, Flamengo's medical department has five injured players: De La Cruz, Michael, Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro, with the trio formed by Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro only expected to return in 2025.

Expectations for De La Cruz in the game against Peñarol

While awaiting Luiz Araújo's diagnosis, coach Tite revealed, after the draw against Vasco, that he hopes to count on De La Cruz for the duel against Peñarol . According to the coach, the Uruguayan's presence could improve the effectiveness of the team, which has shown good performance in recent matches.

“In training, when he (De la Cruz) was leaving, I asked 'is there enough for 20? minutes?'. He smiled, because he couldn't. The physical department definitely said they were not in a position to do so. Not even him feeling well. Especially because you have to talk to the athlete, because then there is the charge. Hopefully, and I hope that he can be there on Thursday to reproduce today's performance, with greater effectiveness”, said Tite in the post-game press conference between Flamengo x Vasco.

This number surpasses any other sporting event in the country to date.

This brand once again consolidates Maracanã as one of the main stages of world football, reinforcing its tradition of receiving large audiences in decisive games. Furthermore, it reaffirms Flamengo's strength in mobilizing fans, regardless of the stage of the competition or the opponent. The game, which was worth a place in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, attracted the attention not only of red and black fans, but also of Bahia fans, who were present in Rio de Janeiro, although in smaller numbers. The expectation generated by the confrontation, added to the tradition of the two clubs on the national scene, was decisive for thousands of fans to fill Maracanã.

FLAMENGO HAS ITS "GOLDEN" MOMENT IN THE SEASON

Flamengo and Bahia are two clubs with a great tradition in Brazilian football, and this was reflected in the mobilization for the confrontation.
