Friday started off tense at Ninho do Urubu. Police officers from the 21st DP (Bonsucesso) were at Flamengo 's training center to interview goalkeeper Agustín Rossi, the victim of an attempted robbery in the early hours of Thursday (8), shortly after the red-and-black delegation returned to Rio. The player's car was shot at by criminals on Linha Amarela, near Bonsucesso, but the armored vehicle prevented anyone from getting hurt.
The case has raised alarm bells within the club and also among the authorities. The Civil Police are working to determine who fired the shots and have already taken the first statements — including that of Rossi himself this Friday. Other investigations are ongoing. The attempted robbery took place around 5:30 a.m., while Rossi was heading home after landing at Galeão airport. The car in which the goalkeeper was traveling was hit by four shots: in the driver's door, in the passenger side mirror, in the rear window and in the fender of one of the wheels. None of the shots went beyond the vehicle's structure.
Rossi did not stop the car when the criminals approached. The decision was risky, but it ended up being crucial in preventing the robbery from being carried out — or the episode from ending in a more serious way. Minutes before the incident with Rossi, other Flamengo players passed through the same area . Gerson and Wesley noticed the criminals moving and managed to alert their teammates who were right behind them. The Argentinean passed through the area just as another vehicle was being robbed.
According to information gathered by the police, two vehicles were stolen at the same point where Rossi's car was attacked. The bandits acted quickly, surrounding the road and trying to approach anyone who was driving in the area. The movement coincided with the arrival of the red-and-black delegation in Rio, after an engagement outside the state.
Hours after the incident, Rossi used his social media to reassure fans and family. In a post on Thursday morning, the goalkeeper said he was fine and thanked everyone for their support. "This morning I was a victim of the lack of security that plagues the state of Rio de Janeiro. Despite the great scare that my family and I went through, we are fine and recovering from what happened. I thank everyone for the messages of affection and concern," wrote the player.

Flamengo held a training session at Ninho do Urubu on Wednesday afternoon (17) with the entire squad on the field. However, Pulgar, Jorginho and Alex Sandro are still doing specific work and will not be available for the game on Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores.
Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar has returned to action on the pitch, but still needs at least two weeks to be cleared for the final phase of physical conditioning. He is recovering from a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, suffered in June.
Jorginho and Alex Sandro are also out of the squad . The Italian-Brazilian midfielder is treating a muscle swelling in his left thigh and is undergoing transition activities supervised by physiotherapists. The left-back, meanwhile, continues to recover from a left calf injury.
Without the trio, Flamengo should enter the field with: Rossi; Varela (or Emerson Royal), Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira and Ayrton Lucas; De la Cruz (or Allan), Saúl and Arrascaeta; Gonzalo Plata, Bruno Henrique (or Pedro) and Samuel Lino.

The Argentine team had a solid campaign in the group stage, eliminating Cerro Porteño in the round of 16 , and has three away wins, losing only to Botafogo .

The game will be played next Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time) , at Maracanã, with ESPN broadcast throughout Brazil.

In addition to announcing the schedule, Conmebol announced this Tuesday (16) a new feature for the quarterfinal stage.
