A Flamengo fans lost one of their greatest idols this Monday. Adílio, who was immortalized in the red-black number 8 shirt, could not resist pancreatic cancer, a condition that worsened in recent months, and passed away at the age of 68. The former midfielder marked his name in the club's history, in its most successful era. No wonder, he is the third player who has worn the mantle the most in history, with 617 matches.

Along with Andrade and Zico in the middle, Adílio was the balance point of the sector who is in the eternal memory of the players. red-black. The number 10 of the season, besides Júnior, are the only ones who have played more for Flamengo than Adílio, in the entire history of the club, to date.


Despite being a second midfield man, Adílio had a habit of stepping into the offensive area a lot and was efficient in front of the goal. For Flamengo, he scored 128 goals with the club's shirt. Some of them were decisive, as in the titles of the 1981 World Cup and the 1983 Brasileirão. The former number 8 also had the habit of serving his teammates and recorded 66 assists for the red and black team.


Adílio was a midfielder classic, with refined technique. He acted centrally or falling to the right of the field. As a child, he played football with his classmates from Cruzada São Sebastião, a community in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. One of his childhood friends, Julinho, who would later become Júlio César Uri Geller, accompanied him for almost his entire career at the red-black base. Between the beginning of his career at Flamengo, he played naked on the beach.

The former midfielder's connection with Flamengo goes far beyond the field. Elected seventh greatest idol in the club's history by GLOBO, Adílio was also a youth coach for the red and black team and even worked for the professional team in short periods. Previously, he coached CFZ, Zico's club, and Bahrain, from Saudi Arabia.

In training held this Sunday (22), Tite's technical committee tested the team with Gabigol among the starters, according to the portal 'Coluna do Fla'. Sign-up tested this Sunday:

Eternal idol and number 8 of Flamengo, Adílio passed away last Monday (08) due to complications resulting from pancreatic cancer. Before the ball rolled to Flamengo and Palmeiras at Maracanã this Sunday (11), Flamengo fans shouted Adílio's name while club employees made the Olympic lap holding a banner with the phrase: “Adílio, thank you for everything! Eternal idol.”
