Vasco finally gave in. After insisting on holding the derby against Flamengo at São Januário, the Cruzmaltino club was forced to back down and has already reached an agreement for the fifth round of the Brasileirão to take place at Maracanã. The duel, scheduled for April 19th at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), should have official confirmation from the CBF in the next few hours.
MARACANÃ WITH EQUAL DIVISION OF FANS
Negotiations between the clubs reached a common point: the stadium will be divided 50/50 between the fans. The scenario is very different from what Vasco's president, Pedrinho, had indicated. He even suggested a 90/10 split in the stands, or even banning the presence of red-and-black fans in São Januário. However, BEPE (Special Stadium Police Battalion) ruled out any possibility of holding the classic in São Januário, for security reasons.
OBSTACLE COMES FROM FAR AWAY
Vasco's resistance to playing at Maracanã is not new . In this year's Campeonato Carioca, the club refused to play the first leg semifinal at the stadium, claiming that the Mais Querido would be favored by playing at a place considered its home . The match ended up being held at Nilton Santos, but the result was the same: a 1-0 victory for the red-and-blacks, with a goal by Bruno Henrique.
Unable to take the derby to São Januário, Vasco still considered other possibilities, such as holding the game in Manaus or São Luís. However, the proximity of the match date and the logistics involved ended up making Maracanã the most viable alternative, even though it was against the club's wishes.
According to information from journalist Venê Casagrande, negotiations for the use of Maracanã are practically complete . The expectation is that the Brazilian Football Confederation will officially confirm the location of the match in the next few hours, putting an end to the impasse that has been dragging on for days. Before facing its rival, Mengão has an intense sequence of matches ahead. The team will take to the field next Sunday (6), against Vitória, at Barradão. Afterwards, it will face Grêmio and Juventude, also in the Brazilian Championship . In the meantime, CRF will also face Central Córdoba, from Argentina, in the group stage of the Libertadores.

After winning the first leg 1-0, at the Maracanã, and beating the opponent again last Sunday (17), 3-1, for the Brazilian Championship, the Mais Querido arrives packed and with morale for the decisive confrontation.
The Rio de Janeiro team, currently the sole leader of the Brasileirão, is targeting the continental tournament in search of a place in the quarterfinals. With the advantage of a draw, the goal is to continue its quest for a fourth Libertadores title. In the group stage, the club finished second in Group C, totaling 11 points, the same as leaders LDU, with four wins, two draws, and only one loss.
