The full-back has a contract with the club until the end of the year and wants to stay with the team. Therefore, the Mais Querido is moving quickly to renew his contract. José Boto gave an update on the situation.
José Boto updates Varela's situation: "It's well underway. When we get to Rio, we'll deal with it."
He continued: " We didn't want to go any further because we're in a competition that I think is unique to all of us . Obviously, things don't stop because there's a competition like that, but we sat down and we have things well underway."
It is worth remembering that Varela 's agent was in the United States to meet with José Boto and discuss the full-back's contract renewal. Thus, the parties appear to have reached an agreement and the player will soon be able to sign a new contract with the club.
