Sunday night (18) was not what Flamengo fans expected. In a classic for the Brazilian Championship, Rubro-Negro was surprised by Botafogo, who won the match valid for the 23rd round with an impressive score of 4 to 1. The defeat, in addition to impacting the team's morale, complicated their title chances in the Brasileirão.

No time for regrets, the Flamengohas already returned to training this Monday (19) with the focus completely on the Copa Libertadores da América. The team led by Tite will face Bolívar (BOL) next Thursday (22), in one of the most challenging matches of the season.

The clash, valid for the second leg of the round of 16, will be held at the Hernando Siles Stadium in La Paz, at an altitude of 3,640 meters above sea level, which always represents an additional obstacle for visiting teams. Despite the 2-0 victory in the first game, played at Maracanã, red and black fans are showing apprehension about Bolívar's ability to react playing at home.

FLAMENGO'S PERFORMANCE IN THE BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

With the defeat to Botafogo, Flamengo fell to fourth place in the Brazilian Championship table, remaining with 41 points, the same number as Palmeiras , who is ahead due to goal difference. Fortaleza (45 points) and leader Botafogo (46 points) complete the top positions in the table.

The 2024 season, under Tite's command, has been one of ups and downs for Flamengo. In 32 matches played, the team won 18 wins, six draws and suffered eight defeats. For comparison purposes, Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, who coached Flamengo before Tite, led the team in 39 games, accumulating the same number of defeats as the current coach.

CHALLENGE IN LA PAZ

Flamengo arrives in La Paz with an important advantage, but the altitude always brings unpredictable challenges. The team will need a solid performance to guarantee qualification to the Libertadores quarter-finals, in a season where the pressure for titles is constant.

Flamengo will have a very alternative team for the clash against Grêmio, this Sunday (22), for the 27th round of the Brasileirão. Departure will be at 6:30 pm, in Porto Alegre. In addition to the 12 players saved for the clash with Peñarol, Gabigol is also not on the list of players listed for the duel with the team from Rio Grande do Sul, as reported by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira.

In addition to the players, Rubro- Negro will not take some members of the Technical Committee, such as assistant Matheus Bachi, and club professionals, to the match. They will continue training with the players who will remain in Rio de Janeiro.

With this, the team that coach Tite should start the match with is: Matheus Cunha, Wesley, David Luiz, Cleiton and Ayrton Lucas; Evertton Araújo, Allan and Alcaraz; Matheus Gonçalves, Carlinhos and Lorran.

Meeting before the trip

Despite a certain appeal from the fans, Flamengo is not considering dismissing Tite before the return game of the Libertadores quarter-finals. However, depending on the result in Uruguay, the coach's situation may change.

This Friday (20), in fact, the red-black directors intend to hold a meeting with the coach present, with the objective of evaluating what happened in the first game against Peñarol, at Maracanã. Furthermore, Flamengo's top management also plans to align solutions to reverse the result in Uruguay and achieve classification away from home.

The president Augusto Melo was asked this Friday (20) about Corinthians' interest in striker Gabigol, from Flamengo. The Corinthians director said that the club's focus at the moment is the dispute in the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, against Rubro-Negro himself, and treated the squad as "closed".

"No, we are very focused on the semi-final. We don't think about that now. We now have a closed squad. No, no, like that... We imagined what we were achieving today, now it's up to the (technical) committee", replied Augusto Melo in a zone. mixed, shortly after the draw for the teams in the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil at the CBF.

Corinthians tried to sign the player at the beginning of the year, but left the deal after feeling a lack of definition between Flamengo and the athlete. The athlete's contract with Rubro-Negro is only valid until the end of the year, and the tendency is for the attacker to change his ways.

With little prestige with coach Tite and hampered by injuries, the numbers of Gabigol in the season are shy: four goals and one assist in 26 games (three as a starter).

Gabigol has already publicly praised the Corinthians fans and was recorded wearing a team shirt in May, which generated great repercussion. Revealed at Santos, the striker also has spells at Internazionale and Benfica, in addition to having already played for the Brazilian national team.
