Flamengo and Fluminense are working together to obtain the Maracanã concession. In an interview with CNN Esportes S/A, Richard Dubois, CEO of the company that manages Mané Garrincha, said that the Sacred Temple can be maintained without Rubro Negro. The "Arena 360", which the businessman represents, is also in the fight for the stadium concession.

The duo Fla x Flu own the stadium concession at least until the end of 2024. Since taking over the Sacred Temple in 2019, Rubro Negro has already invested in adjustments and structural renovations throughout the site and on the pitch. Furthermore, it is the main club when it comes to the number of games and fan attendance.

Even given the facts, Richard states that it is possible for the stadium to survive without Rubro Negro. He also says that Mais Querido should have its own stadium so as not to need Maracanã forever.

“The operation is viable without Flamengo. The club has a long-standing emotional relationship with Maracanã. And I think it's great that they have their own stadium”, said the businessman.

Next, however, Richard spoke about what he sees as ideal for Maracanã. Interestingly, this ideal includes Flamengo. He also commented that the eventual frequency of Rubro Negro games at the stadium would open up space for Vasco and Fluminense to host more games there.

“The truth is that the ideal for Maracanã is for it to have the games relevant, emblematic. If Flamengo builds its stadium, Maracanã would continue to live, because I don't see Flamengo, even though it has its own stadium, not playing from time to time at Maracanã”, he stated.

Arena 360 wants to compete for the concession to manage Maracanã together with the duo Fla x Flu and Vasco. The concession will be for 20 years. In his favor, Richard argues that the stadium cannot belong to any team.

“Is Maracanã owned by a team? Or is it Brazilian football, a heritage of Rio de Janeiro? This answer will define much of the future of our football. I think it has to continue as Rio's heritage. It has to be the face of Rio and all four big teams”, he pointed out before completing:

“Maracanã is the World Temple of Football and will continue to be. We want to make it more, go further. In our proposal, football will always have priority”, said Richard Dubois in an interview with CNN Esportes S/A.
