Coach Renato Gaúcho became a joke among Flamengo fans when he was in charge of Grêmio, as he frequently complained about the money that the Mais Querido had to invest. This past Tuesday (29), in a clear allusion to Mengo, the current commander of Fluminense defended himself.

The fan has to experience the reality of Brazilian football...

" The problem with Brazilian football is that you see a team from Série A facing a team from Série D and you think 'oh, there's going to be a rout today'. São Paulo faced a team from Série C and won 2-1. Internacional, which everyone considers a title contender, only won 1-0 against a team from Série D in injury time. Atlético-MG and Fortaleza drew ", began Renato Gaúcho, in a press conference.

" Today we no longer have those players who change the game from one moment to the next. The fans have to live the reality of Brazilian football. Two or three clubs have a lot of money and have signed decisive players, the other clubs don't have that money. They're going to face a club from the 3rd division... It's quality. Brazilian football is unfortunately at a low level. I would be worried if it were just Fluminense that had a very close result, but other clubs struggled to win," added the coach.

FLUMINENSE HAS A STRUGGLING TIME IN THE BRAZIL CUP

Despite the difference in investments, Fluminense struggled to beat Aparecidense. The tricolor team hosted the team from Goiás last Tuesday (29), at Maracanã, in the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, winning by a score of 1 to 0.

AND FLAMENGO?

While Renato Gaúcho continues to try to lead Fluminense back to glory, Flamengo remains focused on the next commitment of the season. Thus, the Mais Querido returns to the field this Thursday (1), in a match against Botafogo-PB, at 8 pm, for the Copa do Brasil.

Protagonist in Flamengo's U-20 world championship , won last Saturday (23), defender Iago entered the radar of European clubs. According to information from the “GE” portal, teams such as Everton and Brentford, from England , as well as Club Brugge, from Belgium, carried out inquiries for the player.

Despite the interest, none of these teams have formalized an offer. The only concrete offer received so far came from Bahia, at the request of coach Rogério Ceni. The northeastern club submitted a proposal of €2 million (approximately R$12.8 million) , in addition to offering a 20% stake in a future sale. Bahia, however, declined the offer and reiterated that Iago is not available for negotiations.

HOW IAGO BECAME PROMINENT

Iago was decisive in the final against Barcelona (ESP) at the Maracanã Stadium. Mengão was trailing 2-1 and the title seemed to be slipping away, until, in the final minutes, Daniel Sales sent a long ball into the box. The ball found Iago's head, which he lobbed over the goalkeeper, taking the decision to penalties , where the Rio de Janeiro team secured the title.

At 20, Iago still has important commitments in the U-20 category before a possible transition to the main squad. In 2025, he will compete in the U-20 Carioca Championship and the U-20 Copa do Brasil. His successful career includes titles such as the U-17 Copa do Brasil, the U-17 Supercopa do Brasil, the U-20 Brazilian Championship, the U-20 South American Championship, and two U-20 Libertadores titles.

FLAMENGO PLANS TO EXPAND PARTICIPATION

The defender's current contract runs until December 2026, and Flamengo is expected to renew his contract to keep him in the long-term project . However, the situation is being monitored by Volta Redonda, the club that developed Iago in the U-15s and still holds 40% of his economic rights. Currently, Flamengo owns 60% and is considering acquiring an additional 10% for approximately R$500,000.
