Flamengo beat Criciúma 2-1, last Saturday, at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in the 18th round of the Brazilian championship. The game was marked by an unusual move when the Criciúma full-back disarmed striker Cebolinha inside the area, using a second ball that was on the field. The referee did not hesitate to award the penalty, which resulted in victory for Flamengo.

After the match, the move generated great repercussion. Journalist Tiago Leifert commented that the controversy intensified due to Flamengo's involvement. Leifert praised the refereeing for the decision and criticized the anti-Flamengo sentiment present in some analyses.

"This penalty is only considered controversial because it is Flamengo. There is an anti-Flamengo feeling that creates an aura of injustice in moves like this. The refereeing was excellent in this case, they deserve praise for their precision in marking", said Leifert.

BLAME ATTRIBUTED TO THE CRICIÚMA PLAYER

In addition, Leifert held the Criciúma player directly responsible for the incident. Barreto kicked the second ball on purpose to disarm Cebolinha inside the area.

"It was just that the Criciúma player didn't kick the ball. It's his fault. Stop rubbing the player the wrong way and thinking that the It's always the referee's fault. And another, 'the referee should have stopped the game'. That's not what the rule says. In fact, no player stopped the play", concluded Leifert.

PERFORMANCE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

With this victory, Flamengo maintains its good phase in the Brazilian Championship, seeking prominent positions in the table. Criciúma, despite their fierce performance, left the field with a bitter and controversial defeat.
