In the post-game press conference, Tite commented: "There were two different halves. The first had offensive organization, but we counterattacked the opponent." He recognized that, despite the team showing good offensive positioning, the defense still left spaces that could be exploited by the opposing team. This direct and frank assessment by Tite shows his deep understanding of what was happening on the field.
O Flamengo started the game with a tactical scheme that prioritized possession of the ball and the patient construction of plays. However, this strategy also brought risks, as the spaces left by the team in midfield allowed for dangerous counterattacks by the opponent. Even with predominant possession of the ball, the Rio team suffered from the speed of opposing attacks.
"We adjusted more, bringing Varela inside and giving Gerson some freedom, then we created more," explained Tite, referring to the changes that made the difference in the second half. The coach decided to change the team's tactical layout, promoting the entry of Varela and giving more freedom of movement to Gerson, a player known for his defensive and offensive skills.
TITE OPENS THE GAME ABOUT MATCH
These tactical changes brought new dynamism to the Flamengo, who began to better control the midfield and neutralize the opponent's counterattacks. Gerson, with his versatility, was essential in this new configuration, contributing both in marking and in creating offensive plays. The freedom granted to him allowed him to act closer to the attackers, facilitating the creation of scoring chances.
Varela's change in positioning was also fundamental. By bringing Varela to a more central position, Tite managed to strengthen the defense without compromising the attack. Varela helped block opposing attacks and initiate plays from the defense, proving to be a key player in balancing the team.
