After the defeat suffered against Botafogo this past Sunday (18), coach Tite complained a lot about the Brazilian calendar and revealed that Nico De La Cruz even apologized for not being able to play.
"The physical aspects are taken into consideration, but it's the whole thing, including the tactic of having to change and structure the team. It's the whole work, yes, what needs to be improved and recovered (…) You know what Nico (De la Cruz) ) said to me: “Professor, I'm sorry, I didn't have the conditions”. You don't have to apologize. I understand the position, the fans, who are as upset as I am", said Tite.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

According to information from journalist Diogo Dantas, Mais Querido had already scheduled the preservation of Nico De La Cruz for the clash against Botafogo, due to the physical exhaustion felt by the difficult sequence of games in the season. Now, the club is trying not to lose any more players for the next duels.
In fact, there is a possibility that De La Cruz will not even be included in the classic. This is because the idea of the red and black technical committee is to make the Uruguayan midfielder only prepare for the Libertadores, on Thursday (22), against Bolívar.
It is worth remembering that De La Cruz Flamengo was missing in three Brasileirão matches, as he had knee problems. During the period, the player was away from the fields for nine days.
