Police were called to intervene

0Flamengo and Peñarol fans clashed this Thursday afternoon, on Pontal beach, in the West Zone of Rio. Videos of the confusion show that the police have already intervened in the confusion. According to reports, the confusion occurred between two Flamengo fans and a group of Uruguayans camped on the beach.
The location was chosen by Peñarol fans as their base in Rio. The two clubs face each other tonight, at 7pm, at Maracanã, in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores da América.
Outside the four lines, this game is marked by tension. This is due to the recent history of violence between the two fans. In 2019, the last time Peñarol was in Rio to face Flamengo, a red-and-black man ended up dead during a widespread confrontation in Leme.
Two years later, when the Brazilian club was in Montevideo for the final of Libertadores, against Palmeiras, a Peñarol fan was arrested for shooting two Flamengo fans. One of them was hit in the knee and feet. Of the three Libertadores games that Rio hosts this week, Flamengo x Peñarol-URU is the one that will receive the largest police force. 750 agents from Bepe and another 90 from the 6th BPM, responsible for the area, are expected.
At the beginning of the week, members of the PM met with representatives from the Uruguayan Consulate and the Peñarol board. The objective was precisely to align the security scheme.
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
