Eternal idol and number 8 of Flamengo, Adílio passed away last Monday (08) due to complications resulting from pancreatic cancer. Before the ball rolled to Flamengo and Palmeiras at Maracanã this Sunday (11), Flamengo fans shouted Adílio's name while club employees made the Olympic lap holding a banner with the phrase: “Adílio, thank you for everything! Eternal idol.”

As the teams entered the field, the fans erected a huge 3D mosaic with the image of Adílio and the number 8 horizontally, representing the infinity symbol. After the national anthem, fans shouted Adílio's name again in the stadium.

Last Tuesday, the candidate for re-election for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, denied the journalist Ancelmo Gois, from Globo. In a post on Instagram, the mayor informed that the city hall will be responsible for removing the megastructure on the gas meter site, different from what was reported. Furthermore, he guaranteed that Flamengo will have its new stadium, with the best conditions and security.

The news published by Ancelmo informs that Flamengo would have to pay R$100 million to remove a large gas structure present on land acquired by the club, which is owned by CEG and CEG-Rio, which are companies that are part of the gas concessionaire Naturgy.


According to the article, the companies were informed that Flamengo is the responsible for bearing the expenses, as provided for in one of the annexes to the land purchase and transfer contract. The clause, however, does not have a specified limit.


Eduardo Paes guarantees that the removal is the responsibility of Rio's city hall.

Paes stated that the values ​​for the transfer of the structure are different from what was pointed out in the article by Ancelmo Gois. Furthermore, it exempted Flamengo from any responsibility, and that the city hall has been planning to remove it for years.

The greatest number 8 in Flamengo's history will have his image raised on a flag during the game with Palmeiras, at 4 pm, at Maracanã, in a duel valid for the Brazilian Championship.

After holding the wake inside the headquarters, the club understood that a tribute would also be necessary on the stage where Adílio gave great joy to the Flamengo fans.


At the stadium, he scored goals in the state final, Guanabara Cup and Brazilian Championship. Furthermore, he scored the fourth of the unforgettable 6-0 defeat at Botafogo, on November 8, 1981, in what became known as the “Revenge Game”.


In last Wednesday's game, Gerson, the current number 8, played with the name Adílio on his back. The rest of the team had a patch with the idol's face printed on the chest, between the shield and the sporting equipment supplier.

The patch remains on the shirt for the game with Palmeiras this Sunday. Adílio died on Monday, aged 68, a victim of pancreatic cancer.


One of the great flags of red and black history, Adílio is the third player who wore the Flamengo shirt the most, with 617 matches. He scored 129 goals and won every title possible during his time at his favorite club.
