On Thursday (26), Flamengo has one of the most important games of the season. The team faces Peñarol, at 7pm (Brasília time), in the second game of the Libertadores quarter-finals. As they lost the first match, at Maracanã by 1-0, Tite's men need to win by at least two goals to guarantee their place in the tournament's semi-finals.
In the first leg, Flamengo was defeated by a score of 1 x 0 at Maracanã. As a result, Mais Querido needs to win by two goals to qualify in normal time. After being eliminated from the Copa do Brasil, Palmeiras could still suffer another loss. This is because coach Abel Ferreira will be judged by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) and could face up to six months and suspension for making an obscene gesture towards the referee during the confrontation against Flamengo.
Abel Ferreira was denounced in the article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice: "assuming any conduct contrary to sports discipline or ethics, such as disrespecting referee members". Thus, the penalty ranges from one to six games.
