In sixth place in Series B with just four rounds remaining to the end of the season, Guarani faces an important challenge. In addition to the battles on the pitch, the club is going through a period of financial reconstruction that, in a way, can be compared to what Flamengo experienced in the past. Guarani coach Umberto Louzer expressed this analogy at a press conference.
Louzer highlighted that fans have the right to express their discontent when necessary, as they are the club's true assets. However, the coach also emphasized the work done to manage the emotional aspect of the players in the face of difficulties. He recalled that the club is going through a period of financial health, something that Flamengo also had to achieve.
Mengão, in the not too distant past, went through a similar situation under the management of Eduardo Bandeira de Mello. In the next round, Guarani will face Londrina in an away match, and victory is crucial to keep alive the hope of entering the G-4. For this to happen, Novorizontino, currently in fourth place, and Juventude, in fifth, need to stumble.
Coach Louzer emphasized the importance of being realistic and not putting pressure on the board beyond its financial capabilities. He believes that Guarani is on an upward path and that, with dedication and effort, the club will become a powerhouse on the sporting scene in the coming years. The climb up the football hierarchy will be gradual, but the commitment to success is non-negotiable.
Despite the fluctuations in the team's performance at a critical moment of the season, Louzer highlighted the determination of the group of players to give back up. He encouraged them not to lower their heads in the face of challenges and to maintain the expectation of reaching Serie A, an ambitious goal for the club.
Guarani's central objective is to return to Serie A in 2024 and build a team capable of competing competitively in the elite of Brazilian football. The last time Guarani participated in the first division was in 2010, when they faced Flamengo and had a memorable performance, beating the rubro-negro in the Brinco de Ouro. Unfortunately, in the second round in Rio, Flamengo came out on top, winning 2-1 and relegating Guarani to Série B.
That season, Flamengo also beat Guarani at Engenhão, with goals from Renato Abreu and Diego Maurício, while Baiano scored for Bugre. These memories serve as inspiration for Guarani, who seeks to write a new story and achieve their goals of success in Brazilian football.
Scorer of the winning goal at Maracanã in the round of 16 of the Libertadores, the striker points to excessive haste as the reason for the drop in performance in the final stage

Flamengo beat Internacional 1-0 this Wednesday (13) , at Maracanã, and started with an advantage in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Despite the positive result, striker Bruno Henrique assessed that the team lost performance in the second half and explained the reasons for the drop in intensity.
" In the second half, for the first 15 minutes , we want to score right away, and it ends up deviating a bit from what we planned at halftime. We end up being a bit exposed, and the opposing team scores a lot in the first half. In the second half, they have to open up to try to score," said the number 27.
"That's what happened against Internacional. They scored the whole time in the first half. We had more possession, more shots, and more through balls. We took possession in the first half, and in the second half, because we wanted to score quickly , we ended up opening up a bit. It's an area we have to improve on. Jorginho just told me that, so we have to try to improve even more in the first 15 minutes of the second half," he added.
The numbers back up the striker's assessment. In the first half, Flamengo largely controlled possession, registering 73% of the ball and eight shots on goal. In the second half, possession dropped to 59%, and the Rio de Janeiro team managed just two shots, compared to the Rio Grande do Sul club's four attempts.
With the victory, the red-black team needs only a draw in the second leg to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. The decisive match will be next Wednesday (20), at the Beira-Rio Stadium, in Porto Alegre . Before that, the teams will face each other again next Sunday (17), for the Brazilian Championship, again in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time).
