Flamengo begins its quest for the third Libertadores championship this Thursday (3) , against Deportivo Táchira , at the Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo Stadium, at 9:30 pm. Coach of the Venezuelan team, Edgar Pérez Greco, gave a press conference after training and spoke about the preparation to face Rubro-Negro.
The Deportivo Táchira idol recognizes Flamengo 's superiority and emphasizes that the team enters the Libertadores thinking about winning the title. But the coach is confident that the home advantage can make the team play a perfect game to overcome these differences, which he believes is necessary to compete with Mengão.

Edgar Pérez continued to praise Flamengo and described the team as "a European team playing in South America" . He also stressed that he expects a competitive team despite the difference in investment.
"With all due respect to everyone, we know what Flamengo is, its history, what it means on the continent. I also mentioned that it is a European team playing in South America. But, as I said, we want to compete and we hope that everything goes well."
The Deportivo Táchira coach also avoided getting into a "controversy" with Filipe Luís . He was asked about the red-and-black coach's statement in which he said he "didn't know anything about Táchira" after the match against Internacional. Edgar Pérez said he watched the video and the moment when Filipe said he would focus on the Venezuelan team from the following day. He also reinforced that he understands the statement, as his team also played over the weekend.
When asked about how he should set up the team to face Flamengo , the Deportivo Táchira coach stated that the players' commitment is more important than any tactical scheme he could come up with.
"Besides the system you can have, beyond the strategy, there are extra games, I have to be supportive with my teammate, I have to defend everything and attack everyone. There are many details. You watch Libertadores games and at the end you say, 'what system are you playing?' No, you are not playing in any system, it is fighting, searching, running, that is the Copa Libertadores" , he said, before adding:
"So, I think we should do this, in addition to what we have planned, it's a beautiful match, against Flamengo, a Brazilian team that comes here to San Cristóbal, the best team in Venezuela will play against one of the best teams in Brazil, and we hope to rise to the occasion" , he concluded.

In addition to the youngsters revealed at the base, Uruguayan Giorgian De Arrascaeta was also honored this Friday (29) at Ninho do Urubu. The midfielder reached a historic mark by becoming the player with the most assists in the history of the Brazilian Championship, surpassing established idols of national football.
Currently with 78 assists, the number 10 surpassed stars like Marcelinho Carioca, Edmundo, Dudu, Pelé, Zico, and Éverton Ribeiro. For this achievement, he received a commemorative plaque from football director José Boto, in recognition of his career and impact on Brazilian football. Of his total, 60 assists were for Cruzeiro , while another 18 were recorded for Cruzeiro between 2015 and 2018.
This season, Arrascaeta has played 41 matches, scored 16 goals, and provided 13 assists. Since joining the Rio de Janeiro club, only in 2021 has he failed to reach double figures in both goals and assists. So far, he has 102 assists in all competitions for the red-and-black team.
Flamengo has resumed negotiations with midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta to extend his contract, currently valid until December 2026. The club intends to ensure the continuity of one of the most decisive athletes in the squad , a central piece in recent achievements.
The next commitment will be this Sunday (1), at 4 pm, against Grêmio, at Maracanã , for the 22nd round of the Brasileirão. In initial talks, Arrascaeta expressed a desire for financial advancement and a contract until the end of 2028 , with the possibility of adjustments to the contract duration. Meanwhile, Rubro-Negro proposed extending the agreement for just one more season, until 2027, along with a salary adjustment.
The process, which was interrupted, surprised the Uruguayan. Internally, the board had planned to resolve the number 10's future immediately after his participation in the Club World Cup, but the way the negotiations were conducted prevented a quick conclusion . Some behind the scenes believe that the new management does not intend to make any major efforts to retain the player after his current contract expires.
Since arriving in 2019, Arrascaeta has played over 300 matches for the red-and-black team, becoming a technical reference for the Mais Querido . During this time, he won 18 titles, including two Copa Libertadores and two Copa do Brasil , and played a decisive role in several historic campaigns.
