Flamengo will face Athletico this Sunday, in the 28th round of the Brasileirão, with a mixed team. Due to the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil in the middle of the week, Rubro-Negro decided to spare the most worn-out players. Eight changes will be made in relation to the team that played against Peñarol, when it was eliminated from the Libertadores.

Gabigol is one of the starters chosen by Tite. The number 99 will have another opportunity as a starter after almost two months — just as happened against São Paulo, on August 3, he will play in an alternative team. Matheus Gonçalves, who is coming off good performances, will be in attack.

Of the players who faced Peñarol, only goalkeeper Rossi, defender/midfielder Léo Ortiz, midfielder Gerson and striker Plata will start the match against Athletico this Sunday. Varela, Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro, De la Cruz, Arrascaeta and Bruno Henrique are listed, but will start on the bench.

The Flamengo only held one full training session with the entire squad. On Friday, only Libertadores reserves participated in the activity. The likely team should have: Rossi, Wesley, David Luiz, Léo Ortiz and Ayrton Lucas; Pulgar, Alcaraz, Gerson and Matheus Gonçalves; Plata and Gabigol.

It is important to highlight that coach Tite will not be able to count on Carlinhos, sent off in the last round against Grêmio. Michael is already training on the field, but will only be involved in the game against Corinthians, in the middle of the week. In addition to them, Cebolinha, Viña, Pedro and Luiz Araújo are also absent.

Flamengo occupies the fourth place in the Brasileirão with 45 points, 11 less than leader Botafogo, with one game less. The team has only a 1% mathematical chance of winning the title, but needs to guarantee its place in the G-4, aiming to qualify for the 2025 Libertadores.

The change in the date of the second leg of the Copa do Brasil semi-final continues to generate repercussions behind the scenes at the clubs. In addition to Corinthians, Vasco also spoke out against the decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Pedrinho, president of the Rio team, harshly criticized the entity, claiming that Flamengo was favored with the change.

On their social networks, Vasco released a video in which Pedrinho takes a position on the CBF's decision. The director of the Cruzmaltino club stated that the highest entity of Brazilian football sent a letter communicating the change of dates, without even consulting the team about what they thought of the change.

Pedrinho also expressed his dissatisfaction with the attitude of the CBF, highlighting that Vasco faced Athletico-PR in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil with players returning from the national teams just one day before the match. According to him, this new change will benefit both Flamengo and Atlético-MG.

CHECK OUT PEDRINHO'S SPEECH:

"First, the CBF enters We contacted Vasco through a letter asking about changing the date of the game. We immediately denied this request, even offering an alternative to change it to the 16th, an advance of one day. And the CBF completely ignores Vasco's refusal. and it overrides this, given that Vasco played in an identical situation with some players returning in the early hours of the day of the game against Athletico-PR, so this completely calls into question the CBF's decision making. The opponent is benefiting because Vasco played. with players who arrived tired from their travels, serving their teams. That's very clear to me.

The other point is the following: all that's left is for the opponent to choose the referee for the game. the CBF completely loses credibility with this decision. Vasco does not want to benefit, Vasco wants justice. And it's not being fair. Because the situation is similar to what Vasco faced. Today Atlético-MG and Flamengo are benefiting from this CBF decision. Vasco is outraged by the CBF's decision. I even spoke to Mr. Júlio Avelar on the phone who did not agree with the situation of changing dates and championships, bringing forward the Brazilian Championship and pushing the Copa do Brasil to the weekend. So here is the repudiation and obviously the indignation of the Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama."

UNDERSTAND THE CHANGE

Initially, the CBF had established the days October 2nd and 17th as dates for the Brazilian Cup semi-final games. However, due to the FIFA Date, Flamengo and Atlético-MG requested the entity to change the day of the second leg.

In compliance. following requests, the CBF announced last Saturday (28) that the second game of the semi-final between Flamengo and Corinthians will be held on October 20, three days after the originally scheduled date. Vasco will face Atlético-MG on the 19th of the same month. .

In addition, the Série A games that would take place on the 19th and 20th of October, involving the semi-finalists of the Copa do Brasil, were brought forward to the 16th and October 17th.

The Copa do Brasil finals are scheduled for November 3rd and 10th, both Sundays.

In an official statement released this Saturday, the CBF explained that, After the release of the dates of the Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores by Conmebol, it became unfeasible to hold the second leg games of the Copa do Brasil semi-finals on the originally planned date, October 17th.

Check the note of the CBF in full:

"Due to the dates defined by CONMEBOL for the Libertadores and Sul-Americana, the CBF was unable to organize the return semi-final matches of the Copa Betano in Brazil on the date originally scheduled for on October 17th.

The publication of the Libertadores and Sul-Americana tables by CONMEBOL, which, for reasons of public security in the city of Buenos Aires, marked the first semifinal clash between Club Atlético River Plate and Atlético Mineiro for October 22nd, Tuesday.

After listening to the clubs involved and based on the General Competition Regulations (RGC), the CBF decided to change the dates of the return games of the semi-final stage of the Copa Betano do Brasil for the weekend of the 19th and 20th of October.

The games of the round of the Brazilian Series A that would be played on the 19th and 20th of October involving the semi-finalists of Copa do Brasil, will be brought forward to the 16th and 17th of October.

Other reasons for this change were:

- the preparation and adjustments of the calendar, always seeking improvement and permanent promotion of Brazilian football, and in respect for the principles of technical balance and sporting merit; e

- reproduce the previous successful experience with the modification of the games in the final stages of the Copa do Brasil to the weekend, allowing participating clubs equal conditions, after the FIFA date of the 15th of October, so that they employ maximum strength, using and recovering the athletes called up for their National Teams, which enhances the sporting dispute in this acute and decisive phase of the Competition."
