Zé Roberto, one of the most respected players in Brazilian soccer in recent decades, spoke enthusiastically about a name that moves the stands and sports debates: Giorgian De Arrascaeta. In an interview with "ESPN", the former player was asked who he would like to see playing in the Kings League , a 7-a-side soccer tournament created by Gerard Piqué. Without hesitation, he chose Flamengo's number 10.

According to Zé Roberto, the Uruguayan midfielder has the main qualities that an athlete needs to stand out in the more agile and technical format of the competition created by the former Barcelona defender . “He is creative, intelligent and very technical. He has everything to shine in this type of tournament” , said the former full-back, who also revealed that he would have loved to have played alongside Arrascaeta when he was a player.
FORMER PLAYER REMEMBERS HIS TIME AT MENGÃO
Despite being best remembered for his career at clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Palmeiras, Zé Roberto had a short stint at Mais Querido in 1998. At the time, he had been loaned by Real Madrid to Rubro-Negro, seeking match rhythm to play in the World Cup in France.
The loan to the Rio de Janeiro team came at a crucial time. Zé needed a sequence of performances to convince coach Zagallo that he deserved a spot on the Brazilian national team. His arrival at the club took place during a busy transfer window, in which Flamengo introduced other big names such as Romário, Palhinha and Cleison.
During the months he wore the red-and-black shirt, the player played in 24 matches, with a solid performance: 11 wins, 9 draws and only 4 losses. Even without scoring goals, Zé Roberto was important in the midfield and full-back sectors, showing the versatility that would become one of his trademarks in his career.

In a press conference at Ninho do Urubu, goalkeeper Agustín Rossi spoke about his desire to be called up to the Argentina national team , the current world champion. Despite his dream, the goalkeeper made it clear that his priority remains Flamengo.

The Argentine stressed that he keeps his feet on the ground and that his main goal is to continue showing consistency for the Rubro-Negro , who have the best defense in the Brasileirão, conceding only 10 goals in 22 games. At Maracanã, the Mais Querido conceded only three goals.
"I'm in no rush, because my job is for Flamengo , day to day, game to game. My biggest focus is to maintain this streak so that the call-up can come. Of course I have that desire, but I don't treat it as a requirement . I'm Flamengo's goalkeeper, I'm responsible for Flamengo. If the call-up comes, I'll welcome it," he added.
Since joining Flamengo in 2023, Rossi has already won four titles. Last season, he was a key player in the undefeated Carioca Championship and also played in the Copa do Brasil victory. In 2025, he maintained his starting spot in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Campeonato Estadual . In total, he has represented Flamengo in 125 official matches, establishing himself as a pillar of the team.

Back in Brazilian football, Neymar still divides opinions about his future at Santos . During a debate on ESPN Brasil, former player Zinho compared the Santos number 10 to Flamengo's Arrascaeta , which sparked disagreement from Zé Elias. The former Mengão player stated that the Uruguayan wouldn't be able to perform at the São Paulo club.

Flamengo Women have a decisive challenge this Wednesday (17), at 6 pm (Brasília time), against São Paulo, at Morumbis stadium. The match, valid for the round of 16 of the Women's Brazil Cup , will be played in a single game. Whoever wins will advance directly to the next phase of the national competition, which returned to the Brazilian football calendar after a nine-year absence.
