Last Sunday (08), Zico, the greatest idol in the history of Flamengo, said goodbye to Gabigol, who made his final game for the club in a 2-2 draw against Vitória, at Maracanã. Galinho de Quintino left a loving message in the striker's post on social media, recognizing his importance in Rubro-Negro.
“His name remains forever in our red and black hearts for so much joy he gave us. May God continue to light your steps wherever you are”, wrote Zico before the game.
EXCITING TRIBUTES AT MARACANÃ
The farewell was marked by a special afternoon at Maracanã. Gabigol, who wore the Flamengo shirt for six years, scored his 161st goal for the club, consolidating his as the sixth highest scorer in red-black history.
The fans prepared mosaics and flags remembering iconic moments in the player's career, while queues formed to purchase personalized cups in his honor. The game ticket also featured the print of the number 99, immortalizing its importance at the club.
“I think today is the day I become immortal. Soon I will be 30 years old, 35, 40, 90, I will no longer be on Earth, but my name will be here forever. So I think that today a cycle ends, today I became a legend”, said Gabigol as he left the field.
LEGADO NO FLAMENGO
Gabigol ends his time with impressive numbers: 161 goals, 43 assists and 13 titles achieved in 308 matches. Among his achievements are two Libertadores, two Brazilians, two Brazilian Cups, as well as state, national and international titles.
His achievements place him in the pantheon of greatest idols of Flamengo, alongside names like Zico. With his farewell made official, Gabigol goes down in history as one of the main protagonists of the club's modern era.
Mengão has reached the highest partnership agreement with the bookmaker in Brazil and is now on par with the biggest teams in world football.

Flamengo announced this Monday (18) Betano as its new master sponsor . The contract, valid for three years, is the largest ever signed by a Brazilian club and places the Rubro-Negro among the ten highest paid in the world . The agreement provides for around R$268 million per season for the brand's exposure on the uniform.
The amount is more than double the previous contract with Pixbet, which generated R$115 million annually. With this, Flamengo further widens the gap with its rivals in the national scenario : the second-largest master sponsorship in Brazil, Corinthians' with Esporte da Sorte, is worth R$103 million, or R$165 million less than Flamengo's.
The red-black contract exceeds, for example, that of Ajax (HOL) with Ziggo, which pays only €8 million (around R$51 million).
The deal with Betano also includes performance targets that could boost the club's profits . The deal reinforces Flamengo's status as a leading brand in South American football and demonstrates the commercial growth potential of clubs in the region.
Atalanta's Mengão product is in their sights to reinforce their attacking command and the Cottagers already have a replacement in place in case of his departure.

Rodrigo Muniz's goalscoring form in England is starting to stir up activity in the European market . Flamengo's finances continue to be in the spotlight in sports news. After the announcement of Betano's million-dollar sponsorship , the topic even resonated outside Brazil. Last Sunday (17), Peñarol (URU) director Evaristo González commented on the salaries paid by the Rio de Janeiro club .

"The desire to come and win is evident. Flamengo 's reserves alone earn more than our entire team . (Coach Diego) Aguirre gives you this mystique. He's Peñarol, he knows the history. He knows what he's achieving," González said in an interview with Uruguay's 770 AM radio station.
Despite the financial disparity, Peñarol has already shown strength against Flamengo on the field. In 2024, the Uruguayan team eliminated the Rubro-Negro from the Copa Libertadores , including a 1-0 victory at Maracanã in the quarterfinals.
Flamengo and Peñarol could face each other again in this edition of the continental tournament . For the duel to take place in the semifinals, Flamengo must overcome Internacional in the round of 16 and then eliminate Estudiantes (ARG) or Cerro Porteño (PAR) in the quarterfinals.
