As the Club World Cup debut approaches, Flamengo and Palmeiras, considered the Brazilian teams with the greatest potential in the tournament, begin their journey in different groups. In a recent analysis, former player and commentator Zinho assessed the difficulties of each group , comparing the opponents faced by the two teams.
In Zinho's view , Palmeiras' group has a greater level of balance . Even though Chelsea, the Mais Querido's opponent, is considered stronger than Porto — who will face the São Paulo team —, the other opponents in the red-black group would be technically inferior to those in the green-and-white group.
— I think Chelsea is stronger than Porto. But the other two teams in Flamengo's group are technically weaker than those in Palmeiras' group. There is a certain leveling in Palmeiras' group, while in Flamengo's group, Chelsea and Flamengo are far ahead — assessed the former athlete.
Despite facing a Premier League elite club in the group stage, Zinho believes that the Flamengo squad can make a difference. For him, Flamengo has players capable of withstanding the intensity of the tournament and standing out even in a difficult draw.
— Flamengo 's squad is the strongest among Brazilians. It is the team that is capable of advancing, overcoming phases and seeking something bigger. Of course, in the knockout stages the situation becomes more delicate, but I believe in the strength of the group — said the former player.
Zinho also highlighted that, despite the initial phase being challenging, the structure set up by the Rio de Janeiro team gives hope for a solid campaign , as long as they know how to control the decisive moments and do not waste opportunities against theoretically weaker opponents.

With confidence placed in its squad, Flamengo will try to use the collective strength and international experience of its players to confirm the favoritism indicated by Zinho and try to repeat — or surpass — the best campaigns of Brazilian football in the tournament.

Paulo César Zanovelli's refereeing generated complaints after the 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Grêmio, this Sunday (31), at Maracanã. Leaving the field, Samuel Lino stated that the conduct of the match favored the team from Rio Grande do Sul and disrupted the rhythm of Mais Querido.
" In the Flamengo games I've played so far, the refereeing has been very good; I have nothing to say or complain about. It was fair in the games we played. I think today it really slowed down the game, slowed things down a lot. This benefited Grêmio more than us. We were playing at home, with our own rhythm, with strong marking. Despite the 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Grêmio at the Maracanã in the 22nd round of the Brasileirão, Samuel Lino had a special reason to celebrate. The striker was called up to the Brazilian national team for the first time , following the injury of Manchester United's Matheus Cunha.
" When I got the news, I was very happy. I was surprised, because I wasn't expecting it. I want to make the most of it; I'm expecting it to be a great time, and I'll learn a lot, " the player declared after the match.
Samuel Lino 's call-up was due to Matheus Cunha's injury, which meant he would miss the next few matches. Coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to opt for the Mais Querido forward , who will have a chance to play for the national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.
On the field, the match ended in a draw. The Rio de Janeiro team's goal was scored by Arrascaeta, following an assist from Pedro . The Rio Grande do Sul team equalized late on with a penalty kick converted by goalkeeper Thiago Volpi after a deflected ball hit Ayrton Lucas's arm.

Following the 1-1 draw with Grêmio in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship , football director José Boto responded to questions about potential reinforcements for the Mais Querido. According to the director, the club is satisfied with the squad assembled so far and is unlikely to make any further moves in the transfer market.
" The window is still open, until the 2nd. We don't have any plans to bring anyone else, but you never know because the market is volatile; an opportunity, a good deal, might arise. But, in principle, it's closed. I don't even think we have... in Portugal we say that too much water kills the plant, and I think we have enough water," declared José Boto at the Maracanã.
During this window, the club had already made significant moves, securing the arrival of defensive midfielder Jorginho, midfielder Saúl Ñíguez, forward Samuel Lino, midfielder Jorge Carrascal, and right-back Emerson Royal. Prior to this, striker Juninho had been announced as a reinforcement earlier in the year.
