Flamengo is already breathing ahead of the elections. At the end of 2024, the club will go through a vote to define who will be Rodolfo Landim's replacement. One of the names speculated behind the scenes is former president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, who led the club from 2013 to 2018. Currently a federal deputy, the former top hat, however, ruled out any possibility and explained the reason.
"I have no intention of running for office, now I'm a federal deputy. I'm fulfilling my mandate and everything I do I like to do well. Imagining that I were elected president of Flamengo, I would still have two years left as a federal deputy . I wouldn't be able to give the same dedication that I gave in the six years of my two terms at Flamengo. Giving up as a federal deputy or taking him on the thigh, I won't do it", said Bandeira, in an interview with 'Charla Podcast' , this Friday (29)
"For me to be able to take over, I would have to have a vice-general who would be almost like a president. For example, I wouldn't be able to watch Flamengo's games on Wednesday fair, because that day there is a session in the Chamber. It is possible, but I think it would be better to have someone else, I am in favor of renewal. The ideal would be for me to come as a supporter and, eventually, occupy a position that does not require permanent dedication", he added.
As said by Bandeira, the former president's idea is to support one of the candidates. The name has not yet been chosen, but one thing is certain: he will be in opposition to the group that Rodolfo Landim will be in. The two have different ideologies and usually exchange criticisms publicly.
For having served two terms, from 2019 to 2021 and 2022 to 2024, according to Flamengo's statute, Landim will not be able to be re-elected. Therefore, the current president will need to support one of the candidates. There is just over a year left until the elections.
The group of situation expects better results on the pitch to help Landim's supporter to be elected, as Flamengo did not win titles in 2023. Furthermore, the team runs the risk of being left out of the Copa Libertadores da América, as it occupies seventh place in the Championship Brazilian. Rubro-Negro will try to climb the table this Saturday (30), against Bahia, at Maracanã, at 4pm (Brasília time).

Flamengo officially announced the lineup to face Estudiantes this Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time) , at Maracanã, for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. With important returns, coach Filipe Luís is betting on maximum strength to start with an advantage in the continental clash.
Defender Léo Ortiz, who missed last weekend due to suspension , returns to the starting lineup. Bruno Henrique, who also missed the match against Juventude, is confirmed in the squad. The team maintains the core of the squad that has been playing with Filipe Luís.

Defender Gil, 38, has officially announced his retirement from professional football. In an interview with TV Record, the former defender confirmed the end of his playing career: " A new phase, I'm retiring from football. It's decided ."

Gil built a remarkable relationship with Corinthians , a club he played for twice. Between 2013 and 2016, he was a key player in Tite's squad, crowning the period with the 2015 Brazilian Championship title . He returned to Corinthians in 2019 and, during his second stint, reached the impressive milestone of 400 appearances for the club.
Despite his solid history at Corinthians, Gil revealed a dream he never fulfilled: playing for Flamengo . " I did everything I wanted, the only thing missing was playing for Flamengo . Not everything is perfect. I'm grateful for the career I've built," he declared.
The final chapter of his career was at Santos, where he played in the 2024 Série B. The defender played an important role in the club's promotion to Série A , but lost his place in the squad and terminated his contract in August of the same year. Shortly thereafter, he decided to hang up his boots.
Having also played in Chinese football and enjoyed a solid career in Brazil, Gil ended his career as one of the greatest defenders of the last decade , recognized for his consistency, physical strength, and leadership on the field. In total, the former player appeared in 865 matches, scoring 43 goals and contributing 15 assists.
