Corinthians rejected Flamengo's proposal to change the date of the second game of the Copa do Brasil semi-final, which is scheduled for October 17th, at Neo Química Arena. Mengão's request was made informally to the CBF, with the aim of avoiding embezzlement due to the proximity to the FIFA date, but has not yet received an official response from the entity.

According to an official note released by the club São Paulo, the Timão board was surprised by the request, as the match dates had been pre-established before the draw for the semi-finals.

IMPACT IN CORINTHIANS PLANNING

The president of Corinthians, Augusto Melo, contacted Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), to express his position against the change of dates. The club is involved in three competitions simultaneously and believes that any change to the calendar would harm the team's planning and preparation.

"Sport Club Corinthians Paulista received with surprise the news of the proposed change of match dates of the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, as they were already pre-established before the draw itself. Any change will harm our preparation and planning", said the club in a statement.

FLAMENGO'S REQUEST AND IMPACT OF THE FIFA DATE

The Mais Querido board requested the CBF to change the date of the second semi-final game to avoid absences of players called up for the South American Qualifiers. The FIFA date is scheduled for October 15th, just two days before the decisive game at the Neo Química Arena, which could directly impact the lineup of the red and black team.

The semi-finals between Corinthians and CRF are scheduled for the 2nd and 17th of October, and there is still no official decision on the change request made by Flamengo.

FLAMENGO LINEUP

WHERE TO WATCH

For red and black fans, the clash against the Uruguayan team will be broadcast on other channels.

This Thursday, September 26th, Peñarol and Flamengo enter the field to define the last semi-finalist of the Copa Libertadores 2024. The duel takes place at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium, in Montevideo, at 7pm (Brasília time).

The Uruguayan team won the first match in Rio de Janeiro 1-0, with a goal from Javier Cabrera, and arrives at the match with the advantage. Mais Querido needs to win by two or more goals to guarantee classification. If you win by just one goal difference, the match will be decided on penalties.

HOW THE TEAMS ARRIVE

Peñarol arrives excited after the victory at Maracanã and rocked by a 5-0 defeat against Cerro, last Sunday, in the Uruguayan Championship. Furthermore, the Carboneros have an unbeaten run of 12 games at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium, which increases the confidence of the team led by Diego Aguirre. The Uruguayan team must repeat the basis that beat Mengão, focusing on defensive balance and quick counterattacks.

On the side of Flamengo, the atmosphere is under pressure. The Rio team is coming off two consecutive defeats, including the defeat in the first game against Peñarol and the defeat to Grêmio (2-3) last weekend, in the Brazilian Championship.

The loss of unbeaten record 28 games at Maracanã in Libertadores weighs heavily, and coach Tite needs to look for quick solutions to reverse the score and guarantee the place. The expectation is around the physical recovery of important players, such as Arrascaeta, and the possible entry of Gabigol in the second half.

Flamengo took firm measures against Corinthians due to a debt of 8 million reais related to the purchase of full-back Matheuzinho . According to information from the Paparazzo Rubro-Negro channel, Mengão contacted the sports marketing company Brax, responsible for the advertising boards for the games at Maracanã and Neo Química Arena, to block the amounts owed to the São Paulo club.

The request was met, and Brax blocked Corinthians' cash flow as a form of punishment for failing to pay the third installment for signing the player. The company acted as a mediator in this process, after being notified by Flamengo.

CORITHIANS' DEBT TO FLAMENGO

Corinthians' debt with Mais Querido is related to the third installment, which has already been delayed for two months. In addition to this installment of 8 million, the Itaquera club still owes two others, worth 2.5 million reais each, scheduled for the months of August 2025 and 2026. In total, Corinthians owes around 13 million reais to Flamengo for the purchase of Matheuzinho.

The situation generated indignation in the red and black board, especially after Corinthians made high-value signings, such as the recent arrival of Depay, while the debt with the CRF remains open .

MONEY BLOCKED UNTIL 2025

Despite the blockade carried out by Brax, Corinthians no longer has receivables from marketing company for this year. Therefore, the blocked value will only be redirected to Flamengofrom 2025, when Brax has new payments to make to the São Paulo club.

“Corinthians no longer has receivables with Brax for 2024, but the company has already informed that in 2025 the amounts will be transferred to Flamengo”, stated Paparazzo Rubro-Negro on his channel.

With this blockade, Flamengo awaits payment of the debt, while Corinthians remains under pressure for maintaining millionaire signings without honoring financial commitments with the Rio club.
