In search of titles, Flamengoinvested heavily in women's football for the season. Thus, Mais Querido hired Cristiane, the star of the sport. "Mamãe Cris", as she is called, continues to be a reference and inspiration for women in football.

Thus, the person who makes a point of extolling Cristiane's story is Day Silva, athlete from Flamengo and teammate by Cris. The defender returned to Gávea after five years and was emotional when telling her story about her first spell at the club.

“It’s an honor to be back here. I cringe when I say it, because it was very difficult at the time, we didn't have much visibility. We had a very competitive team, so much so that we won several titles. At the time, we had Tânia Maranhão, one of the pioneers of women's football. We had Katia Cilene, Maycon. So, today, we often end up forgetting this generation, as they were the ones who allowed us to experience this today”, he recalled.

THANKS TO CRISTIANE

Day also mentioned the conversation that he usually has with Cristiane on a daily basis at Flamengo. Just like defender Tãnia Maranhão, striker Kátia Cilene and midfielder Maycon, Cris also played a fundamental role in attracting visibility in women's football.

“I talk about this a lot with Cristiane. ‘Man, do you realize that what I am today is because you fought back there?’. I think that for you to understand the future, you have to go back in history”, he added.

FOCUS ON THE WOMEN'S BRASILEIRÃO

Now, with the team reinforced, Flamengo will look to win the Brazilian championship. The competition is divided into straight and knockout points and starts next Friday (15).
