Flamengo will open its 2025 commitments at Championship Carioca with an alternative cast, as the main team athletes are still on vacation. Among the young people looking to stand out, the Nigerian Shola, from under-20, is one of the most promising and has generated great expectations among the fans.
Shola seizes chance at the start of the season
At just 19 years old, Shola is seen as one of the main promises of Flamengo for this season. The striker has stood out in training with the alternative squad and has already had some opportunities with coach Filipe Luís, including playing in the final stretch of 2024. On that occasion, he entered the field against Atlético -MG, at Maracanã, for the Brasileirão.
Now, under the command of coach Cleber dos Santos, Shola seeks to make the most of his chances in the start of Cariocão to consolidate his place in the main squad.
Alternative cast preparation
Since December 27th, the players who will represent Flamengo in Cariocão have been training intensely. Flamengo will officially present its newest signing, striker Samuel Lino, this Friday (1st). Announced on July 29th, the player will be presented to the press at a press conference scheduled for 2:30 pm (Brasília time) at Ninho do Urubu. The event will be broadcast live on the club's official YouTube channel, Flamengo TV , moments before the red-black squad's training session.
Even before his formal presentation, Samuel Lino was already on the field for Mais Querido. The striker was brought on by Filipe Luís in the second half of the match against Atlético-MG , a first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16, played at Maracanã. Despite the 1-0 defeat, the number 16 stood out for his movement and intensity, being one of the most involved figures in the final stage.
After the match, coach Filipe Luís commented on the new signing's performance and emphasized his importance to the team. "He's a disruptive player, capable of being decisive in the opposition's box. The pitch speaks, and whoever is better will play ," the coach stated, expressing confidence in the forward's impact in the upcoming matches.
To secure Samuel Lino until December 2029, the Rio de Janeiro club signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with him. The negotiation with Atlético de Madrid (ESP) involved a fixed payment of €22 million, approximately R$143.6 million , plus the possibility of an additional €2 million in bonuses contingent on achieving established targets, which could increase the total investment.

Negotiated with Roma in this transfer window , right-back Wesley said goodbye to Flamengo to fulfill his dream of playing in European football. And his debut with the new shirt took place this Thursday (31) , in a friendly against Cannes (FRA), where the Brazilian had a standout performance.

Colombian Jorge Carrascal, Flamengo's new signing, has not yet been officially presented to the fans, but he was present at Maracanã this Thursday (1), during the match against Atlético in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The player watched the match from one of the stadium's boxes, while awaiting the completion of the regularization process with Dynamo Moscow, his former club.
Carrascal was initially expected to be presented at the stadium itself, but the Russian club still has some pending bureaucratic procedures. Due to the six-hour time difference between Brazil and Russia, the documents needed to complete the signing didn't arrive in time.
Despite this, the athlete has already passed the medical exams carried out throughout the day, which indicates that the officialization of the link should happen during the afternoon of this Friday (01) . Colombian arrives to be an option to Arrascaeta at Flamengo .
At 26, Carrascal arrives as a key player in the coaching staff's planning . He can play both as a central midfielder and on the wings, offering versatility to the squad.
