Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro, of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ), removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from the presidency of the CBF this Thursday. The judge appointed one of the vice-presidents of the entity, Fernando Sarney, as interventor and determined that he must call new elections "as soon as possible".
" I DECLARE THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN THE PARTIES , APPROVED BY THE SUPERIOR COURT , NULL, due to the mental incapacity and possible forgery of the signature of one of the signatories, ANTÔNIO CARLOS NUNES DE LIMA, known as CORONEL NUNES" , wrote the judge in his decision.
Appointed interventor, Fernando Sarney is one of the current vice-presidents of the CBF , but he broke politically with Ednaldo and is part of the opposition. He was not part of the president's re-election ticket by acclamation on March 24, for example. But his term as vice-president runs until March 2026.
Last week, two requests were made to the Supreme Federal Court for Ednaldo to be removed from office. The argument of Congresswoman Daniela do Waguinho (União Brasil-RJ) and the now intervening Fernando Sarney himself was that the signature of Colonel Nunes, former president of the entity, was forged in an agreement from the beginning of this year. There is also an expert report indicating that the signature is not genuine.
It was this agreement, signed by five directors, that ended the lawsuit challenging the CBF's electoral process and, in practice, allowed the election that kept Ednaldo Rodrigues as president in March. If the signature is forged, Daniela do Waguinho and Fernando Sarney argue that the document is no longer valid.
The case was returned to the TJ-RJ by order of STF minister Gilmar Mendes . On the 7th of this month, he denied the immediate removal of Ednaldo, but ordered the case to be sent to the TJ-RJ for "immediate and urgent investigation... of the facts described in the petitions".
Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro then asked to hear Colonel Nunes last Monday. However, the lawyer for the former CBF president stated that he would not attend for health reasons. The judge canceled the hearing and this Thursday made the decision to remove the CBF president from office.
This is the second time that the TJ-RJ has removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from the presidency of the CBF . The same had occurred in December 2023. On that occasion, a month later, the leader returned to command the entity, by decision of Gilmar Mendes, of the STF.

Flamengo announced this Thursday (28) that there are no more tickets available for the duel against Grêmio , next Sunday (31), for the Brazilian Championship. The expectation is more than 60 thousand fans at Maracanã, a scenario that promises to transform the stadium into a cauldron to push the Rio team in search of another victory in the national competition.
The match is considered crucial for both teams. Mengão, the outright leader with 46 points, is looking to extend its lead over Palmeiras, second with 42, and Cruzeiro , third with 41. Cruzeiro, meanwhile, sees the match as a chance to react and halt the Rio de Janeiro team's momentum.
More than 60,000 tickets were made available, and approximately 65,000 people are expected to attend Maracanã, including free tickets. Tickets ranged from R$80 in the South section to R$500 in Maracanã Mais. All tickets were sold five days in advance.
The last time the team played at the stadium was in the 8-0 rout of Vitória , on a Monday night. Even at the unusual time, more than 60,000 fans showed up to support the team.

Flamengo defender Léo Pereira was face to face with his ex-wife, Tainá Castro, in a hearing held this Thursday (28), at the Barra da Tijuca Forum, in Rio de Janeiro. The judicial meeting dealt with matters related to the former couple's children, Matteo, 4, and Helena, 5.
After leaving the scene, the player stated in an interview with the Leo Dias website that the process is proceeding smoothly and emphasized that he is upholding his parental responsibilities. " It was very calm, easy. It was just a hearing to discuss the children's issues. Today we only talk about the children. We have a good relationship, I've never failed to provide for the children, I'm very calm, the truth will always come out," the athlete stated.
Earlier, the LeoDias website revealed that Léo Pereira was given 72 hours to pay overdue child support. Failure to comply could result in arrest. The player has publicly denied this claim.
