0One of Flamengo's strong names when it comes to negotiations, Marcos Braz, Rubro-Negro's vice-president of football, revealed what was the most difficult signing to make so far. According to the director, the negotiation for Rafinha, who belonged to Bayern Munich (ALE) at the time, was the most difficult. Furthermore, Marcos Braz also recalled that Franck Ribéry, a player for the French national team, wanted to convince the Brazilian right-back to play in Saudi Arabia.
"I thought I could lose the signing of Rafinha, in 2019. He was at Bayern Munich, he still had six months left on his contract, but I believed I could get him out in January. I had to hold on until the next window, and the offers for Rafinha kept coming. The last one was Ribéry. wanting to take him to Saudi Arabia, I said: 'F*d**'", said the VP.
"I was holding him and the agents. Rafinha was a really nice guy and the signing went well. Once he's here it's easy, but he was in Germany for 14 years. It's a life decision", said the VP of football", revealed the director, in an interview with the 'Mundo GV' Podcast.
After remembering the negotiations for Rafinha, Marcos Braz spoke behind the scenes of the signing of the left-back Filipe Luís. Furthermore, Flamengo's vice-president of football revealed the strategy for looking for football players from abroad. "We were in Madrid, and it's bad for the manager to travel and not bring the player, it's never cool. He [Filipe] hadn't decided 100%, and I was tired. Filipe came to me and said: ‘Will the Flamengo fans like me, the way I play? Because I don’t do that thing where I go all the way, to the bottom line’. I said: 'Filipe, are you kidding me (laughs)'", he said.
"Some signings we made, we always made it clear to the player, if something didn't work out, love, a return project calmly so you can make him come more easily. So much so that Rafinha had a million-dollar fine for South America and no fine for returning to Europe", concluded Marcos Braz.
