Gerson's possible departure from Flamengo is no longer just speculation and has become a real chapter of tension between the club, player and fans. Zenit, from Russia, is the likely destination for the number 8, who will continue with the group in the United States, where the team will play in the Club World Cup.
Flamengo's management, although in a formal tone, has already admitted the concrete possibility of a departure. What is holding up negotiations at this time is the non-payment of the termination fee by the Russians. The board, through director José Boto, was direct: it will not accept any form of negotiation other than the full deposit of the amount stipulated in the contract.

The amount in question is 25 million euros (around R$158 million), much lower than the 200 million euros previously stipulated. The considerable drop in this amount attracted attention and was explained by Zinho, a former player and commentator, in a recent analysis. According to Zinho, the reduction in the fine was a demand from Gerson's staff during the contract renewal negotiations.
The player wanted a salary increase, which the club did not grant. As an alternative, he asked for the fine to be adjusted to facilitate a possible departure. “My understanding is the following: the fine was lowered because Gerson's staff demanded it . Flamengo did not reach the salary that Gerson wanted to renew until 2030. What was the demand? Lower the fine, because they knew that new offers would come and, with that, they could leave,” said Zinho.
The statement resonated among board members and club members, who partly recognize that Flamengo gave up more than it should have. The main criticism is that the original contract ran until the end of 2027 — that is, the club could have simply refused to renew. “I say again: Flamengo could have put its foot down and said it wasn’t going to renew. It just had to wait for the contract to end,” Zinho reinforced, defending a firmer stance from the board in the negotiations.

Paulo César Zanovelli's refereeing generated complaints after the 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Grêmio, this Sunday (31), at Maracanã. Leaving the field, Samuel Lino stated that the conduct of the match favored the team from Rio Grande do Sul and disrupted the rhythm of Mais Querido.
" In the Flamengo games I've played so far, the refereeing has been very good; I have nothing to say or complain about. It was fair in the games we played. I think today it really slowed down the game, slowed things down a lot. This benefited Grêmio more than us. We were playing at home, with our own rhythm, with strong marking. A little foul here, another here. But what can you do? There's no point in talking now. There's no point in sitting here complaining," the forward emphasized.
Despite his disappointment with the result, Samuel Lino had reason to celebrate. The striker received his first call-up to the Brazilian national team and expressed surprise at the news.
" When I got the news, I was very happy. I was surprised, because I wasn't expecting it. I want to make the most of it; I'm expecting it to be a great time, and I'll learn a lot, " the player said after the match.
The Brasileirão will be suspended for the FIFA World Cup. Mengão's next match will be on September 14th, against Juventude at the Alfredo Jaconi stadium. Their opponents are currently in 17th place, but are riding high after a victory over Ceará and are looking for a comeback to escape the relegation zone.

Despite the 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Grêmio at the Maracanã in the 22nd round of the Brasileirão, Samuel Lino had a special reason to celebrate. The striker was called up to the Brazilian national team for the first time , following the injury of Manchester United's Matheus Cunha.
" When I got the news, I was very happy. I was surprised, because I wasn't expecting it. I want to make the most of it; I'm expecting it to be a great time, and I'll learn a lot, " the player declared after the match.
Samuel Lino 's call-up was due to Matheus Cunha's injury, which meant he would miss the next few matches. Coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to opt for the Mais Querido forward , who will have a chance to play for the national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.
On the field, the match ended in a draw. The Rio de Janeiro team's goal was scored by Arrascaeta, following an assist from Pedro . The Rio Grande do Sul team equalized late on with a penalty kick converted by goalkeeper Thiago Volpi after a deflected ball hit Ayrton Lucas's arm.

Following the 1-1 draw with Grêmio in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship , football director José Boto responded to questions about potential reinforcements for the Mais Querido. According to the director, the club is satisfied with the squad assembled so far and is unlikely to make any further moves in the transfer market.
" The window is still open, until the 2nd. We don't have any plans to bring anyone else, but you never know because the market is volatile; an opportunity, a good deal, might arise. But, in principle, it's closed. I don't even think we have... in Portugal we say that too much water kills the plant, and I think we have enough water," declared José Boto at the Maracanã.
