The whole of Brazilrecognizes Flamengolike the 1987 Brazilian champion, but Sport insists on calling itself the national winner of that year. When asked who really deserves the trophy, journalist Tino Marcos, who worked at Globo for 35 years, did not hesitate in his answer.
“(The champion is) Flamengo. Flamengo total. It was the first division, the big brands, the big teams were there. There was one or another injustice in the formation of the business. América-RJ (note: it was fourth in the 86 Brazilian Championship, but did not compete in the same module as Fla) was placed there. Everything was very truncated, there would be a crossover between the first two of one module against the first two of the other. And then it didn’t happen and so on”, said Tino Marcos, in an interview with ‘Lance!’.
“The mistake was this, this drawing that culminated this. Flamengo, belatedly, saw thatit didn't make sense b>. Today, we're talking so many years later, but I'm sure even the youngest fan remembers these guys. Look at the Flamengo team: Zé Carlos, Jorginho, Aldair, Edinho and Leonardo; Andrade, Ailton and Zico; Renato Gaúcho, Zinho and Bebeto. (Why didn’t you play against Sport?) Yes, you were going to win”, concluded the journalist.
CBF RECOGNIZES FLAMENGO'S TITLE, BUT SPORT RESORTS TO ORDINARY JUSTICE
In 2011, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the highest football entity in the country, recognized both Flamengo and Sport as Brazilian champions 1987. However, dissatisfied with this decision, the Pernambuco team appealed to the Common Court to declare itself the only winner of that year, claiming that the judicial sphere does not have the same understanding of the sport.
THE CONFUSION OF 87
Faced with the lack of resources to organize the Brazilian Championship, the CBF announced that it would not promote the competition in 1987. In response, the Clube dos 13, which brought together the thirteen teams with the biggest fans in the country, called up three more clubs and organized the Copa União, which featured 16 teams. This allowed the entity to secure major sponsors, resulting in public success and broadcast ratings.
Concerned with the growth of the Clube dos 13, the CBF changed its stance and decided to hold a championship without the 16 main teams, called Yellow Module. The CBF itself called the Copa União the Green Module. However, the country's main clubs opposed the decision to cross the two champions in a quadrangular.
In this way, Flamengo and Internacional refused to face each other against Sport and Guarani. Thus, the people from Pernambuco and São Paulo beat the Rio de Janeiro and Gauchos by WO and held the final between themselves, with the team from Recife being the champion. Mengão, in turn, emerged victorious in the 'first division' clash, winning 1-0, with a goal from Bebeto.

Flamengo officially announced the signing of Colombian midfielder Jorge Carrascal this Thursday (31). At 27 years old, the player arrived in Rio de Janeiro after a long journey of more than 19 hours , coming from Russia, where he played for Dynamo Moscow. He is the fourth reinforcement confirmed by the club in the window, alongside Saúl, Emerson Royal and Samuel Lino.
The acquisition of Carrascal represents another step in Flamengo's ambitious project for the remainder of the season. To complete the deal with the Russian club, Flamengo paid 12 million euros— approximately R$77.5 million at the current exchange rate —in a negotiation that dragged on for weeks.
This Thursday (31), the midfielder appeared at Ninho do Urubu, where he underwent medical examinations , visited the facilities at CT George Helal and met with the Technical Director of Football, José Boto. After the completion of the procedures, the player signed a contract with Flamengo.
Carrascal's official presentation was scheduled to take place at the Maracanã stadium before the Copa do Brasil round of 16 clash against Atlético-MG. The event follows the model adopted with Samuel Lino, who was also presented directly to fans in the stadium stands. However, the documentation was not released in time.
Negotiations between Flamengo and Dynamo Moscow began even before the Club World Cup , but faced obstacles before completion. The Rio de Janeiro club had to reformulate its initial proposal, adjusting amounts and payment terms, until reaching an agreement with the Russians. Although the terms were defined in early July, the transfer was only officially finalized this week.
Mengão goes to Fortaleza to face Vozão in the 18th round of the Brazilian Championship and seeks victory to remain at the top of the competition.

Leader of the competition with 36 points, Rubro-Negro seeks another victory to maintain the good phase. Ceará, 9th place with 21 points, tries to surprise at home and get closer to the G-6.
In the previous round, Flamengo beat Atlético-MG 1-0, while Ceará defeated Cruzeiro 2-1 . Filipe Luís's team has won four and lost one of its last five matches. Their opponents have won three and lost two in the same period.
Fans will have three options to watch the match : Record TV on broadcast television or Cazé TV on YouTube, both offering free streaming, while Premiere will broadcast the match on pay-per-view. Rede Globo will not broadcast the match.

The duel is valid for the 18th round of the Brasileirão, the penultimate of the first round of the Brazilian Championship and Mengão needs the victory to remain in the lead with one more game of advantage over the second-placed, Cruzeiro.
With only one player missing for the match, Ceará is expected to field a full-strength squad. The likely starting lineup includes : Bruno Ferreira; Fabiano Souza, Marcos Victor, Willian Machado, and Matheus Bahia; Richardson, Dieguinho, and Galeano; Lourenço, Pedro Henrique, and Pedro Raul. Flamengo is expected to field a full-strength team, maintaining its focus on the Brazilian Championship.
