The Brazilian Men's Football Championship, which had been suspended since May 13th, will resume at the beginning of June, as announced by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) this Tuesday (21). The competition suffered a pause in its 7th and 8th rounds due to the floods that seriously affected the state of Rio Grande do Sul since the end of April.

In an official note, the CBF announced that the matches valid for the 7th round will be held on June 1st and 2nd, dates originally reserved for the 9th round. This decision was made to preserve the technical planning that supported the creation of the championship table. Thus, the long-awaited clash between Flamengo and Grêmio will take place at Maracanã.

The temporary suspension was a request from the clubs in solidarity with the victims and due to the logistical complexity caused by the floods. The situation in Rio Grande do Sul required the reorganization of the detailed games table. The decision on the relocation was confirmed after deliberations that will be held at the Extraordinary Technical Council on May 27, 2024.

The CBF highlighted that the canceled matches of Rio Grande do Sul clubs from previous rounds and other competitions organized by entity will be rescheduled for future dates, depending on availability on the calendar.

Cacau Cotta, director of External Relations at Flamengo and pre-candidate for councilor in Rio de Janeiro, raised a crucial point about the relevance of politics in the administration of football clubs, especially in Flamengo. For him, politics is not only omnipresent, but also essential for the functioning and growth of these institutions.

Cotta argues that politics is inserted in all spheres of society, including sport. He explains that Flamengo's interaction with different political groups is fundamental to realizing the club's interests. To reinforce this idea, Flamengo has a specific position in its organizational structure: the executive director of Government Relations. This role is crucial to mediate the relationship between the club and the various bodies of public power.

CACAU COTTA  OPENS THE GAME AND EXPOSES BEHIND THE SCENES

The director highlights several examples that illustrate how politics can benefit football clubs. He mentions the case of Atlético Mineiro, which re-elected Alexandre Kalil, former president of the club, as mayor of Belo Horizonte in 2020. This fact demonstrates the influence and prestige that a figure from the sporting world can have in politics.

Another example cited is Corinthians, who got the Neo Química Arena and its training center thanks to the work of Andres Sanches, former federal deputy and former president of the club. Sanches' ability to move between football and politics resulted in significant benefits for the São Paulo club.
