The recent failure in negotiations involving the sale of right-back Wesley could pave the way for Fabrício Bruno to leave Flamengo. Internally, the club's management analyzes the situation of the two players differently, taking into account both the age and growth potential of each one.
Wesley, young and promising, is still seen as an athlete which can evolve significantly, to the point of eventually reaching a place in the Brazilian National Team. This vision is supported by the expectation that, with more time and experience, the full-back can reach a higher level of performance, becoming an even more valuable asset for the club. Therefore, his stay in the squad is considered strategic, given the potential technical and financial return in the future.
On the other hand, Fabrício Bruno, 28-year-old defender, is seen in a different way. Although he is a highly rated and important player for the squad, the board understands that, due to his age, he has already reached the peak of his career. The prospect is that his departure will be easier to compensate for, both technically and in the transfer market. One of the main arguments is the greater ease in finding a quality replacement for the defense, a position in which Flamengo traditionally invests and which has several options on the market.
The initial preference of the red and black board, if a sale were completed, was for Fabrício Bruno to leave. This preference does not diminish the recognition of the defender's performance and importance, but is based on the view that replacing a 28-year-old athlete would be simpler and less impactful on the team's structure than that of a young, rising full-back.
Recently, Rennes, a French first division club, showed interest in Fabrício Bruno, formalizing a proposal of 14 million euros (approximately R$84 million) by the defender. This offer generated internal discussions at Gávea, as it represents a significant amount, especially considering the club's current financial scenario. The proposal, however, also raises questions about the depth of the squad and Flamengo's ability to remain competitive on all fronts without the defender.
