CHECK OUT THE NOTE IN FULL:
“After the victory over Flamengo at the Arena, Grêmio became aware of the publication of the newspaper Lance! with the report of an alleged case of racial insult involving two Grêmio fans against Flamengo player Carlinhos. The case allegedly occurred while he was passing through the locker room access tunnel, after being expelled from the field and vandalizing the VAR booth.
In the face of such a serious complaint, Grêmio took all measures to clarify the facts, as the Club is most interested in knowing exactly what happened in order to apply the punishments fairly.
Therefore, last night, Grêmio identified the fan responsible for what was said to the Flamengo player.
When asked by the Club, the fan reported that he usually watches games from the same position, in the seats close to the field access tunnel.
He said that, after witnessing the Flamengo athlete's act of breaking the VAR booth, he said “are you mad?”, a phrase that was repeated by a child who was next to him.
Grêmio is also studying other measures related to the episode. And take the opportunity to reinforce your commitment against any type of discrimination. He clarifies that he has extensive work to combat racism. And, in addition, it will always do everything possible to identify and punish fans who, eventually, commit any type of illegality in the gaming environment.
The club is available to public and sports authorities to collaborate with the case.”
FAN MANIFESTATION
The identified fan, Élvio Zaka, also demonstrated on social media. In a video published on Instagram, he declared: “You're angry, you've become a 'monkey'” directing the message to Flamengo fans, and added that they don't know how to lose and are trying to divert the focus from the Flamengo player's attack on the VAR.
