Corinthians went to Maracanã to face Flamengo and lost 2-0, on Saturday (11), in the 6th round of the Brazilian Series A Championship. The goals were scored by Pedro and Lorran. The setback ends the positive streak of Alvinegro do Parque São Jorge. Against the red and black, coach António Oliveira tested a scheme with three defenders, but it had no effect.

Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, who spoke out against the press, acknowledged in an interview after the game that he failed in Pedro's goal. In the move, Mengão's number 9 finished over the Corinthian archer and, even so, the ball went into the back of the net. “On the first goal, I made a mistake. Everyone knows it was a defendable ball. It’s part of it”, said Timão’s number 22. It's worth remembering that the 25-year-old player recently became the team's starter and Cássio could be leaving for Cruzeiro.

Carlos Miguel also highlighted Corinthians' capital mistakes against Flamengo: “Football isn't just about the guy who is running with the ball. It's the guy who's running for someone else. We made mistakes defensively and conceded the goal”, said the athlete in the mixed zone. Since the number 22 became a starter at Timão, António Oliveira's team has recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat. During the period, Alvinegro do Parque São Jorge conceded three goals.

The Sinergia Rubro-Negra Group (SRN), made up of influential partners from Flamengo, held a meeting last Saturday (7), at the club's headquarters, located in Gávea. The main objective of the meeting was to promote fraternization among the participants, but, inevitably, club politics ended up dominating the discussions throughout the event.

The main topic that emerged during the meeting was the support of the SRN to Rodrigo Dunshee's candidacy for president of Flamengo. Dunshee, who currently holds the position of general and legal vice-president of the club, is a prominent figure in the red-black political scene. The group, made up of members who share an aligned vision regarding the club's management, sees in Dunshee a name prepared to take over Flamengo's leadership, especially considering the upcoming electoral cycle.

FLAMENGO HAS A NEW DIRECTION IN THE ELECTIONS

During the event, members of the SRN highlighted Dunshee's role in the current administration, remembering that he was a fundamental player in several legal achievements of the Flamengo in recent years. The group believes that his experience and proximity to the club's internal processes make him the ideal candidate to succeed current president Rodolfo Landim, whose tenure ends at the end of his term.

Although the initial objective of the meeting was a celebration between the partners, it was inevitable that the conversations turned to Flamengo's political future. The club's presidential elections are approaching, and political groups are already beginning to articulate support and strategies. The SRN, being a strong group within the red-black political structure, has stood out for its organization and capacity to mobilize members.

Those present discussed, among other topics, the possible implications of a possible Dunshee's candidacy. His name has been circulating among members for some time, but now, with the explicit support of the SRN, his candidacy is gaining strength. The members highlighted that Dunshee is a name of continuity, someone who is already part of the current management and deeply knows the challenges and needs of the club. This, in the group's view, represents a positive point, as Dunshee could continue the projects started under the Landim administration.

Flamengo continues to debate whether to look for a replacement for Pedro, a striker who is recovering from an injury. The decision is complex, involving several variables ranging from the financial cost to the availability of players on the market. One of the main points under discussion is the high cost of a possible replacement. The club is aware that signing a center forward may require a significant investment, something that needs to be carefully evaluated within the team's current budget.

In addition, Flamengofaces the challenge of downtime of players available on the market. Many of the center forwards who are free for transfer come from long periods without playing, with recent injuries or prolonged absence from the field. This situation represents a risk, as the integration of a player who is not in the rhythm of the game may take longer and be less effective initially.

FLAMENGO HAS "WORRIES" AT THE MOMENT

The club is also considering the limited number of viable options on the market. The scarcity of attackers who meet the criteria required by Flamengo – both in terms of quality and physical readiness – is a factor that further complicates the search for a suitable replacement.

In this scenario, the management of Flamengo assesses whether signing a new player is the best solution or whether there are viable alternatives to deal with Pedro's absence, such as adjusting the tactical formation or promoting youth players. The final decision is still being studied, and the club needs to carefully consider all aspects before making a decision.

EX-FLAMENGO REVEALS THAT HE NEVER HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE TEAM DURING HIS PASSAGE

Flamengo is one of the teams in Brazil that best treats its young players, so much so that many are currently shining on the world stage, such as Vinícius Júnior, Lucas Paquetá and João Gomes, from the Brazilian team. These players are examples of how the red and black base can boost successful international careers. However, not everyone who passes through Flamengo manages to achieve the same level of recognition and success, leaving the impression that some talents may have been "unjustified" for various reasons.

An emblematic case is that of Carlos Miguel, who was recently announced by Nottingham Forest, in England. The Europeans paid 4 million euros, the equivalent of R$23.6 million to Corinthians for the archer. Standing 2.04 meters tall, Carlos Miguel demonstrated enormous potential in the opportunities he had with the São Paulo team, raising questions about why he didn't get a similar chance at Flamengo.

Carlos Miguel had a spell at Flamengo at the base, playing in 2016. "I played for Flamengo at the base, I played in 2016. It was during this period that we won the Copa São Paulo, alongside (Lucas) Paquetá, (Felipe) Vizeu, among other boys", began the former Timão goalkeeper. Despite his contributions, he was unable to establish himself in the first team. The goalkeeper highlighted that competition and opportunity management may have influenced his development.

“The starting goalkeeper was Thiago, I was part of the team. João Lopes and Gabriel Batista were also part of the team, as well as Neneca (Hugo Souza)", said Carlos Miguel, in an interview with communicator Benjamin Back's podcast. Carlos Miguel explained that, despite his potential, the lack of opportunities was a decisive factor in his decision to leave Flamengo. "I was born in 1998, Gabriel Batista and I are the same age. I didn't have many opportunities to play, while he did. Then the opportunity arose to go to Internacional, where there was no goalkeeper born in 98 at that time", he added .

Carlos Miguel's choice to go to Internacional was motivated by the search for more playing opportunities. “In the youth categories, age is often a determining factor. So, I decided to go to Inter, believing that I would have more chances there”, explained the goalkeeper. At Internacional, he hoped to have more chances to show his talent, something that seemed limited at Flamengo. However, his departure from Parque São Jorge was also not without criticism, demonstrating the challenges faced by young athletes in search of affirmation in football.

It is worth remembering that Hugo Souza, known as Neneca, who was mentioned in the interview, was precisely chosen to replace the recently signed by Nottingham Forest and arrived at Parque São Jorge on loan until the end of 2024. The trajectory of Carlos Miguel and other young Flamengo talents highlights the complexity of the transition from youth to professional categories, and how factors such as opportunities and career management can influence the success of young promises in Brazilian football.
