The columnist Mauro Cezar Pereira highlighted in UOL's Posse de Bola that it is not only Flamengo that could lose Gabigol, but also Gabigol losing Flamengo. In Mauro's opinion, this is not the time to discuss contract renewal, especially with the striker suspended until 2025.

See the journalist's statements:

'There's a risk that Gabriel will lose Flamengo too': "A lot of people say: 'Ah, he's going to leave Gabigol on the track'. How is he going to renew a contract with a guy who's been suspended, who hasn't played well for a long time and who in the negotiation that they started doing last year in a mistaken way, the Football Department, even blocked Landim, not because of him alone, but because of the pressure he suffered within the club, he wanted a raise and everything. Which justifies a salary increase and a long contract for Gabriel, especially now that he is suspended? Technically, it doesn't justify it, and him being suspended doesn't justify it either. Oh, there's the risk of losing an idol. And there's the risk too of him losing Flamengo. That's what people have to think - there's a risk of Gabriel losing Flamengo. Going to another club and becoming a secondary player."

'Talking about Gabriel's renewal today is senseless madness':

"If he goes to Corinthians or whoever else, he's going to have to work hard, show a lot of football, do many goals, to be respected and loved by the fans. What he isn't able to do even at Flamengo, so why doesn't he try to do that now? He hadn't been doing it, until this year he was trying hard, but it wasn't happening and now it's suspended until he prove otherwise due to a completely foolish attitude. All of this is unnecessary. The club is even being very elegant with him, they are defending him, they are appealing. You don't see anyone from the club attacking the player publicly, behind the scenes the guys can be very upset with him, and there's no shortage of reasons why he's missing out on the team. Today, the correct thing to do, if he is actually suspended and is unable to change this scenario, is for him to remain on the back burner, the law allows Flamengo to suspend his wages and renew his contract for a period of inactivity. So, if he completes the suspension until April, he could have his contract automatically renewed until January 2026. Talking about Gabriel's renewal today is crazy, it makes no sense"

'What would Gabigol be without Gabriel? Flamengo?'

"It's not a question of what Landim thinks, but what he has to do, it's not his money, it's the club's, simple as that. There is no point in renewing the guy's contract under these conditions today. It is also important to think about the other side, the importance of Gabriel for Flamengo and the importance of Flamengo for Gabriel. What would Gabigol be without Flamengo? What was he before Flamengo? A player who made it in Europe and didn't stay, a great promise for Santos before that, played for two unremarkable European teams, barely played, and at Flamengo he was transformed. So, what will Gabriel be like outside of Flamengo, especially Gabriel from last year? It wasn't a bad phase, it was a very bad season, including some very unfortunate statements that he made. In this aspect, Landim is right."

At just 18 years old, Léo Nannetti took center stage in the U-20 World Cup final at the Maracanã Stadium. The Flamengo goalkeeper was instrumental in the 2-2 draw in regulation time and shone in the penalty shootout , saving two shots in the 6-5 victory over Barcelona. The goalkeeper's impeccable performance cemented Mengão's title, securing their second title in the intercontinental youth competition.

Before the ball rolled, Léo Nannetti said he received a special message from Agustín Rossi, the starting goalkeeper for the professional squad. The encouragement served as fuel for a great performance: " Rossi sent me a message before the game to reassure me. I was able to put into practice what he and the goalkeeping coach, André, had said. We did a very detailed study and, thank God, I was able to be decisive," he said.

YOUNG DEFENDER CELEBRATES ACHIEVEMENT

Emotional after the match, Nannetti highlighted the importance of the moment he experienced and the trajectory he built at the club: "It's wonderful to win this title so young alongside my brothers. I've been at Flamengo since 2016. Winning a World Cup with them is unforgettable," he declared.

In a packed Maracanã, Flamengo beat Barcelona on penalties 6-5 , after a thrilling draw in normal time, and secured their second U-20 World Cup title this Saturday (23). The victory consolidated the good moment of the red-black youth team, which once again overcame one of the main clubs in Europe .

Among the protagonists was Matheus Gonçalves , who had a special afternoon. The striker, about to say goodbye to the category, celebrated the achievement with emotion: "It was special. We were raised together since we were little, it has a special taste. My last title with the under-20. I have to congratulate Léo (Nannetti, goalkeeper) and Bruno (Pivetti, coach). It's the second Intercontinental and we are two-time champions. Very happy for everything", he declared.

MATHEUS GONÇALVES HAS COMPETITION

At 20 years old, having turned 20 on August 18th, the attacking midfielder will dedicate himself exclusively to the first team under Filipe Luís . In 2025, he made 15 professional appearances , including three goals in the Campeonato Carioca.

Despite the confidence of the coaching staff, Gonçalves has only played 313 minutes on the field this season , making his streak difficult due to the strong competition for position with Luiz Araújo, Samuel Lino and Gonzalo Plata.

EUROPEAN TEAMS MONITOR THE PLAYER

Interest in Matheus Gonçalves isn't new. The player was nearly traded to Cruzeiro for €3.5 million, but the deal fell through . However, foreign clubs remain vigilant: CSKA Moscow (Russia) and Olympiacos (Greece) are evaluating the possibility of formalizing offers before the international window closes in September.
