Last Sunday, Flamengo was beaten by Botafogo, at the Nílton Santos stadium. At the press conference, Tite once again cited the Brazilian football calendar as one of the possible reasons for the red-black failure for the rival. In this sense, UOL journalist, Rodrigo Mattos, believes that Flamengo's coach owed some explanations regarding the team's performance.

The columnist participated, alongside journalist Bruno Braz, in Flamengo's live and highlighted:

"[The calendar] It's a factor, but he stuck to explaining the game by just one factor. He didn't explain the factors that were his fault, which is the case of the changes he did at the end of the break and that, tactically, made the game easier for Botafogo", said Mattos.

"He thought of something to keep scoring, having more people in the area. What happened. It's just that Botafogo arrived from the edge, played the ball underneath and not over the top. There's no point in having a bunch of defenders boxed in if the other team has a lot of space on the edges to cross for a shot. 19 shots on goal from Botafogo, nine of which went towards the goal. Rossi caught a lot of balls, penalties. So, I think he had to explain his mistakes as well", he added.

Rodrigo Mattos points out that the issue of the calendar should be brought to the table, but he makes considerations about the analysis of the match.

"At the time he was coach of the national team, he didn't say anything about the calendar, right? He's right in his criticisms, but that wasn't the only factor. There were other factors and his responsibilities. I think he doesn't talk much about these things. It's not exclusive to Tite. Every Brazilian coach doesn't like to talk about weaknesses and talks about other things that, sometimes, are right, as is the case with this calendar, but in general it diverts the focus from what their mistakes are."

Bruno Braz recalled the absences, but believes that Alvinegro's elastic score was influenced by the coach's choices. The journalist cited the change in midfield that made Artur Jorge's team gain even more ground in the classic.

"I think the goal itself was largely down to Tite, the changes he made. From the changes he made, especially in midfield. He lost midfield to Botafogo. Okay, there were several important absences, and that counted, but I think the score was on Tite's account", declared Bruno Braz.

Rodrigo Mattos indicated what may have been an error in evaluation by the technical committee and management. "It's a strategic choice. Back then, he chose to play all the starters in the Copa do Brasil against Palmeiras, and harm the performance in the Brazilian Championship, which was the most important competition. You compete hard in those games back there, it's going to blow up here."

This time, the mobilization takes place amid an atmosphere of urgency, as the club prepares for the decisive clash in Uruguay, after the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol at Maracanã, in the Copa Libertadores 2024.

The defeat to Peñarol, at home, complicated life for Flamengo, who now need to win away to guarantee their classification. The fans, aware of the difficulty, do not let up and reinforce the idea that support off the field is essential for success on it.

The Flamengo, one of the biggest clubs in Brazilian football, is experiencing a moment of turbulence. With club elections scheduled for the end of the year and Tite's contract approaching the end, the coach's renewal is considered unlikely. In this scenario, Luís Castro emerges as one of the main candidates to take over Flamengo's technical command, according to details released behind the scenes.

The match against Peñarol, held last Thursday (19), was a reflection of the difficulties faced by Flamengo this season. The team performed poorly on the field, with few clear chances to score and unable to impose their game against an opponent who knew how to defend themselves well. The beginning of this Sunday night was not good for the red and black fans. This is because Flamengo lost to Botafogo 4-1, in another very bad game for the team. Shortly after the final whistle, goalkeeper Agustín Rossi gave an interview on the edge of the field and cited fatigue as Rubro-Negro's biggest problem in the classic.

"A it's true that I had the opportunity to take the penalty. I think they had an extra day of rest, they played on Wednesday and we played on Thursday. We didn't even make it 72 hours before last game and I think that in the second half we suffered because we were more tired than them. We have to look ahead. We have one game less, we can still recover the points lost today", said the archer. p>

The goalkeeper also mentioned the decisive match against Bolívar, on Thursday (22), in the Libertadores. He asks that the result against Botafogo does not affect the team's performance in the important clash for the international tournament.

“There is a final on Thursday, in Bolivia, and we need to always be thinking positive. We know that it represents Flamengo, the biggest club in Brazil. Today was a classic and on Thursday it's a final. It's going to be a tough game, we have to keep improving and always move forward. This club demands that.”

With the result in the classic, Flamengo remains with 41 points, five less than the leader Botafogo, with 46. Rubro-negro now needs to turn the key to the Libertadores of America. This is because there is a decisive game at altitude against Bolívar, for a place in the quarter-finals.

In the first match, Tite's men won at Maracanã 2-0 and have the advantage of losing by up to a goal difference to pass. For the Brasileirão, Fla will only return to the field next Sunday, at 4pm, against Bragantino, at Maracanã.
