Wednesday night will be a night of pressure and decision at Maracanã. Flamengo and LDU will face each other at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), in a duel valid for the fifth round of Group C of the Copa Libertadores. For Rubro-Negro, it is a matter of winning or complicating their lives in the continental competition. With five points, Flamengo currently occupies third place in the group. LDU, in turn, has eight and is in second place.
The duel is straightforward. In case of defeat, Flamengo will depend on a combination of results in the last round. A victory, on the other hand, puts the team led by Tite back in the running. The difference to LDU would drop to one point, and Rubro-Negro would close the phase against the already eliminated Palestino, away from home.
The current opponent, LDU from Quito, arrived in Rio de Janeiro with high morale and organization. Coach Pablo 'Vitamina' Sánchez outlined the likely formation and should take to the field with Gonzalo Valle; Daniel De La Cruz, Ricardo Adé (or Darío Aimar), Gian Franco Allala and Leonel Quiñónez; Kevin Minda, Carlos Gruezo, Fernando Cornejo; Lisandro Alzugaray, Álex Arce and Alexander Alvarado.
The Ecuadorian team has one confirmed absence: Bryan Ramírez is serving an automatic suspension. In defense, defender Ricardo Adé is doubtful after feeling pain in his calf. If he is unfit, Darío Aimar should be the substitute. Despite playing away from home, LDU is counting on defensive solidity and the good form of Arce, the team's top scorer, to seek a result that would practically guarantee a place in the knockout stages.
The expectation for the red-and-black team is for full strength. Coach Filipe Luis has not revealed the lineup, but the tendency is for him to go out on the field with the best he has available. With the Maracanã packed and the atmosphere of an early final, the pressure for performance and results is inevitable. Flamengo comes into the game with an inconsistent performance in the Libertadores. They have only won one game, drawn two games and lost one game in the first four rounds. The lack of intensity at times and the difficulty in creating offense have been the main points of criticism from the fans.
The new agreement will bring the Rio de Janeiro club R$268 million per year and positions the team among the biggest contracts in world football with the betting house.

Flamengo's Deliberative Council approved, this Tuesday (19), the master sponsorship contract with Betano , one of the global leaders in sports betting. The link will begin on August 20, 2025 and will remain valid until December 31, 2028 , guaranteeing the club R$268 million per season. The agreement is considered the largest ever signed in national football.
The partnership includes brand exposure on the uniforms of the professional team and also on Olympic sports such as volleyball, basketball, and women's soccer. Additionally, the company will be featured on Flamengo TV content, expanding commercial integration and global visibility. The board emphasizes that the agreement is not limited to financial support, but opens doors to new business opportunities.
With values comparable to those of European football giants, the contract brings Flamengo closer to clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, and Barcelona. For comparison, Flamengo's partnership surpasses sponsorships from clubs like Ajax, whose partnership with Ziggo generates only €8 million (approximately R$51 million) per year. This amount places the Brazilian team in 10th place in the world rankings for largest sponsorship deals.
This Wednesday (20), at 8:30 am, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista , known as Bap, will be live on Flamengo TV alongside Guilherme Augusto Figueiredo, General Director of Betano Brasil. The conversation will be led by João Guilherme and will cover the details of the negotiation considered historic.
The striker is accompanying the delegation to Porto Alegre for the match against Internacional, but is experiencing a period of uncertainty and low minutes.

Striker Juninho traveled with the Flamengo squad to Porto Alegre, where the team faces Internacional this Wednesday (20) , for the decisive clash of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. However, the player's use is not yet confirmed . Out of the last match against Colorado for the Brazilian Championship, the center forward lost space in recent weeks and was not related in three consecutive games, including the first leg duel at Maracanã.
Internally, the club's board is evaluating the athlete's future, as he has received inquiries from Saudi Arabian football clubs, with loan proposals rejected by the club. Previously, Juninho was close to a move to Sevilla earlier this year.
Negotiations, however, were halted after coach Filipe Luís intervened, contacting the striker to convince him to join Mengão's project. The investment was substantial: R$37.2 million to acquire the number 23, who currently has no place on the team.
In 2025, Juninho played 22 matches for Flamengo , scoring just three goals and providing no assists. He played 726 minutes that season, almost always sporadically used by Filipe Luís. In the Carioca Championship, he appeared in eight matches and scored two goals.
He has already played six times in the Brasileirão, without finding the net. In the Libertadores, he played four games and scored one goal , while in the national cups and the Club World Cup, he failed to stand out.
Colorado will have important reinforcements such as Alan Patrick and Carbonero to face Flamengo in a decisive duel at Beira-Rio
