This Wednesday (22), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received the Serbian ambassador to Brazil, Aleksandar Ristic, at the Planalto Palace, who was accompanied by former football player Dejan Petkovic. During the visit, Ristic handed President Lula his letter of credence, a document that formalizes the diplomat's role as a representative of Serbia in Brazil.
The delivery of the letter of credence by the diplomat to the President of the Republic is a formal procedure which indicates the ambassador's intention to represent his country in Brazil. Upon receiving the document, the Brazilian president officially recognizes the ambassador as a representative of Serbia.
Lula expressed surprise and satisfaction with the presence of Petkovic, Flamengo's idol and known in Brazil as "Pet". The former player's unexpected visit prompted the president and first lady, Janja da Silva, to pose for photos alongside Petkovic. On his social networks, Lula shared the joy of the meeting.
“I received the ambassador of Serbia, Aleksandar Ristić, to present his letters of credentials. And by surprise he brought the most Brazilian and famous Serb in our country”, wrote Lula about the photos with the diplomat and Petkovic.
Dejan Petkovic, who had a successful career in Brazilian football, especially at Flamengo, where he became an idol, accompanied the visit to Palácio do Planalto, further strengthening ties between Brazil and Serbia.
