MÁRIO JORGE DOESN'T HAVE A LITTLE TONGUE ABOUT LORRAN IN FLAMENGO'S PROFESSIONAL CAST: "IT'S NOT READY"

The Nation was delighted with yet another historic performance by Lorran. Last Sunday (17), Flamengo won its first title in the U20 Libertadores after beating Boca Juniors. Camisa 10 from the base contributed with an assist and a goal in the 2-1 victory. However, coach Mario Jorge asked for calm with the jewel.

Despite showing maturity and coolness, participating in important achievements for Flamengo at the base like Libertadores and the Brazilian Under-20 Championship last year, Lorran is very young. The star will still be 18 years old in July, meaning he plays among the oldest players. It is worth noting that the midfielder has already had opportunities for the professional team and achieved a historic feat by becoming the youngest athlete to score goals for Flamengo, as remembered by Mario Jorge. However, the professor treats the red-and-black promise with great caution.

“Measuring how much remains (to be ready) is difficult, right?! Lorran was already in the professional ranks, performed and scored a goal, the youngest athlete to have scored a goal in Flamengo's professional football. But I believe he is still a boy, he is very young. I think we have to have a little patience because at some point he will fluctuate or not deliver what the fans are expecting. We can't massacre a boy like that. On the contrary, we have to take him, put him in our lap and treat him as the future of the club”, said the coach, in an interview this Monday (18).

Making use of space , Mário Jorge expanded his speech to other promises from Flamengo's base. The coach believes that the Nation needs more patience with the Boys from the Nest, and emphasized about Lorran:

“We treat him like a jewel that the club is establishing as a next suitor for the professional number 10 shirt . He will make mistakes, he will fail and make mistakes in the game, but it is up to us to take care of this boy. And on the outside, treat him a little better too. Wow, they're 17 years old. I remember the amount of stupid things I did, do you remember yours? So… I think we have to be a little more patient with young people. He (Lorran) is not ready yet and needs time”, he concluded.

Scorer of the title goal in the Libertadores U20, Lorran has a contract until 2025 with Flamengo and a termination fine valued at 50 million of euros (more than R$ 270 million).

This Saturday morning (7), Flamengo faced Nova Iguaçu and won 2-0, in the first game of the quarter-finals of the Carioca U20. The team led by Filipe Luís opened a good lead for the second leg. The goals of the match were scored by Guilherme and Wallace Yan.

In the qualifying phase, Mais Querido, despite sharing the spotlight with the Brasileirão under-20 and preparing for the World Cup, had a good campaign. Rubro-Negro advanced in second place, with 26 points from 11 games. Winning eight matches, drawing two and losing only once.

Mixing the team between the main team and the reserves during the competition, the team also had alternation between coaches. This is because Rafael Bahia led Rubro-Negro in the Carioca under-20 and Filipe Luís led the team in the Brasileirão and World Cup in the category.

FOCUS ON THE NEXT GAME

Now, Mais Querido returns to the field next Saturday (14), in the return match of the quarter-finals of the Carioca under-20. By having a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard, Rubro-Negro can lose by up to a goal difference and will advance to the semi-finals. The game will be at 9:30 am, in Gávea.

Nigerian striker Elija Shola renewed his residence visa, guaranteeing his stay in Brazil for another five years. The renewal of the permission was requested by Flamengo to the Federal Government. Furthermore, the player signed a new contract with the club, which is now valid until the end of 2027.

Although Shola has not yet debuted for Flamengo's professional team, he was listed for the classic against Flamengo. Botafogo, which ended with a 4-1 defeat at the Nilton Santos stadium. The striker was one of the highlights of Flamengo's under-20 team, which won the Libertadores and Intercontinental in the category.

Last month, Flamengo reached an agreement with Remo Stars, Shola's former club , purchasing 70% of the athlete's economic rights for 450 thousand dollars. The 19-year-old Nigerian has been on loan at Flamengo since April 2023. His last residence visa was valid for six months and expired in September 2024.

Shola was first scouted during the Viareggio Cup 2022, traditional grassroots tournament held in the Tuscany region, in Italy. He stood out as one of the main figures of his team, helping them reach the final of the tournament. Following this observation, Flamengo sent a scout to Nigeria to evaluate him again, confirming his signing shortly afterwards.

The attacker Carlinhos should be Flamengo's starter in the classic against Botafogo this Sunday (18), in the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship. The number 22 must take over the space left by Pedro and Gabigol. Playing against the Rio rival brings back good memories for the player. In this year's Carioca he scored two goals against Botafogo.

At the time, Carlinhos was wearing the Nova Iguaçu number 9 shirt. The match was held in February, at the Engenhão stadium, in the sixth round of the tournament. Botafogo led 2-0, but Carlinhos led his team's reaction by scoring two goals. In the end, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The game against Botafogo will be Carlinhos' fourth as a starter with the Rubro-Negro shirt. He was part of Tite's lineup against Palmeiras, Atlético-MG and São Paulo. Against the Minas Gerais club, number 22 scored the second goal of the game.

Carlinhos should have a sequence in the starting team

Without Pedro, Gabigol and Everton Cebolinha, Mengão's number 22 should gain a sequence in Tite's starting team . In addition to the match against Botafogo, he should be selected in the starting eleven against Bolívar, on Thursday (22), in the return game of the round of 16.

As Pedro and Gabigol only return in September , Carlinhos should also play against: Bragantino (25); in the first game of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil (27, 28 or 29); and Corinthians (01/09).

Striker projects season titles

Signed by Mais Querido after being second top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca, striker Carlinhos projected to win all the titles that Flamengo has to compete for this season. The projection was made during 'Carona com Smigol', a FLATV program.

In the conversation, he said that “this energy of ours, this vibration of ours in each training session and each game, everyone donating to the maximum, so nothing is better than finishing as champions of the Brazilian Championship, we will achieve that, God willing. Let's look for all possible titles.”
