Flamengo finalizes the last details to face Atlético-MG, this Sunday (3), at 4pm, at Maracanã, for the game first leg of the Brazilian Cup finals. Mengão opens the decision alongside its fans with the mission of gaining an advantage for the cup game, while the team from Minas Gerais is confident in its performance in the cups this year to return home with a good result.
New finals record holder and in search of the fifth title, the Rubro-Negro passed through Amazonas, Palmeiras, Bahia and Corinthians, and only decided at home against the Bahian team. Atlético eliminated Sport, CRB, Fluminense and Vasco. The team from Minas Gerais is fighting to win the third tournament title in its history.
The team led by coach Gabriel Milito runs different campaigns between the Brasileirão and the World Cups. While it is just the new place in the national league, it is in the finals of both the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil. And this oscillation results in difficulty in achieving undefeated streaks, but, on the other hand, it increases confidence for knockout matches.
But there is factors in Atlético-MG's campaign that could give Flamengo even more hope heading into the final. For example: the team hasn't won away from home since September 1st (3-2 over Grêmio). Since then, there have been three defeats and three draws.
In these ties , there are the classification games against River Plate and Vasco. The goalless game against the Argentine team guaranteed a place in the continental decision. Against Cruzmaltino, also with an advantage on the scoreboard, Atlético counted on a great goal from Hulk in the final minutes to avoid a penalty shootout.
Atlético-MG's last 5 games of the season:
29/10- River Plate 0 x 0 Atlético- MG- Libertadores semifinal round
26/10- Atlético-MG 1 x 3 Internacional- 31st round Brasileirão
10/22- Atlético-MG 3 x 0 River Plate- Libertadores semifinal match
19/10- Vasco 1 x 1 Atlético-MG- Copa do Brasil semifinal round
16 /10- Fortaleza 1 x 1 Atlético-MG- 30th round Brasileirão
Even though it is a team that likes to have possession of the ball , an average of more than 50%, it is unlikely that Atlético-MG will launch an attack in the first game of the final. But they are also not a team that will get rid of the ball and just focus on defending themselves.
Expectation is for Milito to put together a team that won't take too many risks against Flamengo at Maracanã. The tendency is towards a strategy to try to match the red and black intensity, especially in the early minutes, to avoid pressure. Furthermore, the formation must result in a congested midfield to make it difficult to exchange passes and enable recoveries to activate the attackers.
To keep an eye on: Hulk
Captain, team top scorer and reference in decision-making moments. Hulk will certainly be the most sought-after athlete by the Atlético-MG team and will force the red-and-black defense to maintain maximum attention for 90 minutes. He has 19 goals and 11 assists, many for Paulinho, second top scorer with 17 goals and who also demands mobilization. Without Deyverson, the two should once again form an attacking duo.
It was from feet of the striker who scored the qualifying goal against Vasco, in the final minutes of the semi-final. It is important for the Red and Black defense to be aware of the constant movement of the rival attack. At one time Hulk appears as a center forward, at another moment he is opening space for infiltration and also receives in the middle to give this pass.
Probable lineup for Atlético-MG against Flamengo
ilito does not have Fausto Vera, Deyverson and midfielder Cadu for the match. The first two have already played for other clubs in the Copa do Brasil, the same case as Carlinhos at Flamengo, while the last one is recovering from a rupture in the anterior cruciate ligament, lateral ligament and meniscus in his right knee.
Zaracho and Bernard, on the other hand, has recovered from injury and is available again. Therefore, a possible Atlético-MG to start the game against Flamengo is: Everson; Lyanco, Battaglia and Alonso; Scarpa, Otávio, Alan Franco, Rubens (Zaracho) and Arana; Paulinho and Hulk.
Mengão reached an agreement with Dynamo Moscow to sign the midfielder, but the Russian club did not send a document authorizing the official announcement.

Although he was the first signing by Flamengo in this transfer window, midfielder Jorge Carrascal was the last to show up in Rio de Janeiro . According to the 'GE' portal, the last document signed by the Russian club arrived at Flamengo late in the afternoon of this Friday (1st). With that, the official announcement of the player will be made in the coming days, after the conclusion of pending procedures with Atlético-MG.
The reason for the delay was that Dynamo Moscow, his former club, took too long to complete the necessary paperwork for the transfer . The Russian team only released the Colombian after signing Rubens from Atlético-MG as a replacement.
At Dynamo's request, Flamengo will participate in the payment to Atlético-MG for Rubens' acquisition. Thus, a significant portion of the €12 million (R$77 million) invested by Carrascal will go to the Minas Gerais club.
Despite being in Rio since Wednesday, Carrascal has not yet been regularized with the CBF, which prevents him from playing in the next matches — against Ceará, this Sunday (3), for the Brasileirão, and against Atlético-MG, Wednesday (7), for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The registration deadlines for both matches have already expired.
The Colombian's debut is scheduled for August 9th against Mirassol at Maracanã, in the final round of the first half of the Brazilian Championship . Having been training regularly and playing for Dinamo, Carrascal is expected to be available to Filipe Luís as soon as he is officially confirmed. He has already passed the medical exams but will only be able to train with the club after being registered.
Alvinegro still owed Mengão for the signing of Matheuzinho, but managed to deposit a huge amount to close the matter.

Flamengo received, this Friday (1st), another millionaire amount related to the sale of right-back Matheuzinho. Corinthians paid around R$ 14 million to Rubro-Negro , paying off the remaining amount of the negotiation made in February of this year.
At the time, the Rio de Janeiro club sold the player for R$21.48 million, but Corinthians delayed the third installment of the agreement. As a result, Flamengo demanded immediate payment of the entire outstanding amount . The information was initially reported by the portal Meu Timão.
To facilitate the payment, Corinthians signed an agreement with Brax, the company responsible for marketing advertising signs for both clubs. The company acted as guarantor for the deal and transferred the funds to Flamengo .
By August, Corinthians had already paid R$8 million directly to the Rio de Janeiro club. It then transferred R$7.58 million to Brax , which topped up the amount with another R$6 million , fully settling the debt with the club.
While the board celebrates receiving the amount, Flamengo remains focused on the field. The team led by Filipe Luís returns to play this Sunday (3), against Ceará, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Arena Castelão, for the 18th round of the Brasileirão. The match will be broadcast live on Premiere, on pay-per-view.
During the press conference to present Samuel Lino, the football director was direct when speaking to Mengão fans about the signings

Flamengo has already made four signings official this transfer window , but the delay in negotiations has drawn criticism from some fans . During striker Samuel Lino's presentation, football director José Boto spoke out on the matter and apologized to the Flamengo Nation.
“Sometimes things take a little longer than the fans want, and I apologize to the fans, but we ( Flamengo 's board) have fixed ideas, and as long as it's possible to have the players we want , we'll go after it,” explained Boto.
Brazilian football's second transfer window opened on July 10th, and Flamengo began the period cautiously, monitoring the market and evaluating options. As the weeks progressed, the board accelerated negotiations and secured four key signings : Saúl Ñíguez, Emerson Royal, Samuel Lino, and Jorge Carrascal.
Despite the names already confirmed, Flamengo remains attentive to the market. The club is in ongoing negotiations with Fiorentina, Italy, to sign striker Lucas Beltrán . Flamengo has already agreed on a fee with the Italian club, but still needs to convince the Argentine player to return to South America.
While the board works behind the scenes, the squad led by Filipe Luís focuses on the challenges on the field. Flamengo's next match is this Sunday (3), against Ceará , at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Castelão, for the 18th round of the Brazilian Championship.
