At 21 years old, Guilherme Caribé continues to make history in Swimming. The Flamengo athlete, who comes from three gold medals at the last Pan-American Championship, achieved another record in his career this Saturday (30). Caribé reached a time of 40.55 in the NCAA final, surpassing Cesar Cielo's mark.

The NCAA is the biggest university swimming championship in the United States. Guilherme Caribé studies at the University of Tennessee, where he also trains with an eye on the Paris Olympic Games, which will take place in the middle of this year.

The NCAA grand final took place this weekend, in Geneva, Ohio. Caribé had qualified in fifth place and went in search of gold in the 100 yard freestyle decision. The first place on the podium did not come, but in compensation, the swimmer achieved another extraordinary feat in his career.

He finished the race in second place, with a time of 40s55. The Brazilian record in this sport belonged to Cesar Cielo, one of the greatest swimmers in the country's history and Olympic champion, who clocked 40.92 in 2008. In other words, this time had not been beaten in 16 years.

It is worth noting that University championships receive a lot of prestige in the USA. The NCAA, for example, has the participation of national team athletes, not only from the USA but also from other places. The podium in the 100-yard freestyle ended with Canadian Josh Liendo, Guilherme Caribé and American Jack Alexy.

Guilherme Caribé arrived at Flamengo in 2023

The swimmer from Bahia signed his first contract with Flamengo in January 2023. Guilherme Caribé, also nicknamed the “new Cielo”, is one of the great promises in Swimming and the hope of a Brazilian medal in Paris. As mentioned before, Caribé lives in the USA and trains at the University of Tennessee, but when he returns to Brazil, he uses the pools in Gávea.
