Flamengo reached their fourth Brazilian Cup title in 2022, after beating Corinthians on penalties, 6-5, at Maracanã. However, the president of the São Paulo team, Duílio Monteiro Alves, still hasn't overcome the defeat to Mais Querido. This Friday (10), the president stated that the Itaquera club deserved to have won the national tournament.

— Does anyone here not agree that Corinthians deserved to be champions in the final of the Copa do Brasil, against Flamengo? Corinthians was better. So, you can be champion. Unfortunately, a ball hit the post and went out. That's exactly what happened - said the president of the São Paulo team to TV Corinthians.

The first match between Flamengo and Corinthians ended in a 0-0 draw at the Neo Química Arena. At the time, coached by Dorival Júnior, Mais Querido ‘destroyed’ the São Paulo team away from home, but was unable to find the back of the opponent’s net. At Maracanã, the story ended with a happy ending.

That's because Flamengo opened the scoring in the first minutes of the first half, at seven, with Pedro. However, Corinthians drew in the complementary stage with Giuliano, leaving everything equal in the final of the Copa do Brasil. With the draw, the decision went to penalties, with Rodinei among the highlights.

Filipe Luís missed the first penalty for Flamengo, while Fábio Santos found the net for Corinthians. However, soon after, Fagner kicked out and Gabigol put Mais Querido back into the game. Thus, to seal the Mais Querido title, Rodinei kicked for the last time and drove the red and black fans crazy at Maracanã.

In this year's Copa do Brasil, Flamengo failed to lift the title. However, Mais Querido is still looking to lift a trophy this season: the Brasileirão. This Saturday (11), Clube da Gávea faces Fluminense, in the 34th round of the Brazilian Championship, at Maracanã.

Check it out:
