Flamengo beat Fluminense 1-0 on Sunday (23), in a game valid for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. The victory in the Fla-Flu classic was decided with a goal from Pedro in the second half, sealing three more points for Mais Querido. The match, played at Maracanã, was marked by high tension and several wasted chances by both teams. With the result, Flamengo climbed the table, while Fluminense sank into a crisis.

On Monday (24), one day after the defeat, Fluminense announced the dismissal of coach Fernando Diniz. The club justified the decision due to recent poor results and the team's lack of evolution. Diniz's departure marks the fourth time that a coach has been fired after losing to Flamengo this season. The Tricolor Carioca board is now looking for a replacement to try to reverse the situation in the championship.

In April this year, São Paulo was the first to fire its coach after a defeat for Flamengo. Coach Thiago Carpini could not resist the 2-1 defeat and was dismissed from his position after 18 games. On that occasion, Flamengo proved to be dominant, while São Paulo failed to present competitive football. This defeat was a turning point for the São Paulo team, which was seeking a technical restructuring.

Another example was Vasco da Gama, who fired coach Álvaro Pacheco after a 6-1 defeat suffered by Flamengo. Pacheco had a short spell at São Januário, leading the team in just four matches without any victories. The crushing defeat to the red-black rival was the last straw for the Vasco board, who opted for a radical change to try to save the season.

Beyond Furthermore, Athletico-PR fired Cuca after a 1-1 draw with Flamengo. The decision came a week after the game, which was the last straw for the coach's departure. Cuca was already under pressure and the draw at home against Corinthians was decisive for his dismissal. With the departure of Fernando Diniz, Fluminense joins this list of clubs that opted for a change of command after clashes with Flamengo.

Now, after beating the Fluminense and cause another dismissal, Flamengo turns its attention to the next game. Mais Querido faces Juventude this Wednesday (26), in the 12th round of the Brasileirão. The match will be held at the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, in Caxias do Sul, at 8pm (Brasília time). Flamengo seeks to maintain momentum and continue climbing the table, while Fluminense tries to reorganize itself for the remainder of the competition.

Victory to respect

Despite being a competition to open the season, Flamengo's victory gives a boost to the season. After all, Minas is the team to beat in Brazilian women's volleyball. Thus, in the last five Superligas, the Belo Horizonte team won four titles and one runner-up. In the squad, there are athletes who have played for the Brazilian team, such as Thaísa, Olympic champion and bronze medalist in this year's edition, in Paris.

Superliga

The dates of the Women's Super League have not yet been announced. However, there is an expectation that the competition will start in October. In total, 12 teams will play the tournament, in a round-robin system, with the eight best qualifying for the quarter-finals.

In the last edition, after all, Flamengo was eliminated by Praia Clube in the semi-final . Therefore, the goal for 2024/25 is to reach the decision and repeat the title won in 2000/01, when Rubro-Negro beat Vasco, in a historic decision at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

The event will be held in Central Park, New York. FIFA did not detail how many cities and stadiums will host the 2025 edition. This will be the first time that the tournament will feature 32 teams.

The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. This is because Atlético-MG and Botafogo are fighting for the last South American place in the competition — the Libertadores title gives them the place. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.

What will the Super Mundial be like?

< The competition organized by FIFA will be played for the first time with 32 teams next year. The United States will host the first edition of the tournament in this format. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups with four teams each, with them facing each other in a single round. The top two in each group will advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage will be played in a single game.

The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.

In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

Flamengo is focused on the decision against Peñarol, in the Libertadores. However, Mais Querido's next opponent in the Brasileirão, Athletico-PR fired its coach Martín Varini. In total, the coach played 19 games in charge of the team from Paraná, who came to the decision to dismiss him due to negative results in the competition.

Like Mais Querido, Athletico-PR remains alive in the Copa Sudamericana, but has stumbled in the Brasileirão. Thus, this may have been the last straw for Martín Varini's dismissal, as the team had gone seven games without a win.

NEW COACH AGAINST FLAMENGO

O Athletico -PR faces Racing this Thursday (26) in the Sulamericana, the same day as Mais Querido in the Libertadores. In this way, the Paraná team rushed to sign a new coach to be on the edge of the field for the match.

In this way, Athletico-PR will have a new coach for the match against Flamengo. The team's new commander is Lucho Gonzalez, a former player at the club.

WHAT ABOUT FLAMENGO?

Flamengo remains focused on the Libertadores and travels to Uruguay this Tuesday (24 ). The Mais Querido squad completes preparation for the match against Peñarol this Wednesday (25). The clash will be Thursday (26), at 7pm, in Montevideo.
