The life of Felipe Passos, former Flamengo swimmer and current Fluminense athlete, took on dramatic turns in a recent episode during his vacation. The 19-year-old young man, a journalism student, suffered an accident while practicing "alligator" in the sea of Copacabana.
On January 16th, Felipe decided to enjoy the waters of Rio and, after some successful attempts at "tubing" , faced a disastrous turn of events. A wave closed the tube, resulting in a fall that caused him to hit his head on the sand. Paralyzed and unable to move, Felipe counted on the unexpected solidarity of Fabiola Soares, a courageous bather who, despite not knowing how to swim, took the risk to rescue him.
The drama was worsened by the difficulty in obtaining help on the beach, as people, intrigued by Felipe's flippers, thought it was a simulacrum. The effective intervention came with the arrival of Fabiola and other bathers, who, in addition to calling the lifeguard, took action to rescue the young man.
The rescue took Felipe to Miguel Couto Hospital, where an operation emergency revealed an injury to the cervical spine, with a fracture at C6, a hernia at C7 and another injury to the bone marrow. The swimmer, without health insurance, faced an additional battle to pay for treatment. Mobilization on social media was crucial, with Fluminense and Flamengo fans joining forces to raise resources and support for Felipe's treatment. Help came from different sides, demonstrating that sporting rivalry can be put aside in the face of a humanitarian cause.
Felipe was discharged on January 19, but the journey to recovery has only just begun. His case highlights the importance of solidarity and compassion, transcending club rivalries. Sport, even in its tragedies, unites hearts and inspires gestures of generosity. Felipe's fate, marked by an accident in the waves of Rio de Janeiro, is now shared by a community that comes together to help the young swimmer overcome and recover.
The Philadelphia 76ers center was at a shopping mall in Cabo Frio, in the Lakes Region of Rio de Janeiro, and made purchases of Mengão products.

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid, MVP of the 2022/23 NBA season, once again demonstrated his affection for Flamengo . Last Thursday (21), the Cameroonian player was spotted in an official club store, in Cabo Frio (RJ) , where he made a point of purchasing several red-black products.
Although unusual, Embiid's presence in the Lakes Region has a reason. Married to Brazilian model Anne de Paula, the athlete often visits the city, where his father-in-law lives, during the holidays. This time, he took the opportunity to explore the "Nação Rubro-Negra" store and expand his Flamengo memorabilia collection.
The star's arrival took everyone by surprise and caused great excitement among the employees. Salesman Kauan said he was so nervous when he met the player that he forgot to remove the alarm from a piece of furniture, creating an unusual moment: " His father-in-law even joked with me afterward. It was an unforgettable experience ," he revealed.
Embiid didn't hold back. He brought jerseys for himself, his wife, his father-in-law, and his son , as well as accessories like shorts and thermoses. The visit even helped meet the store's sales goals. The center also obliged some fans and store owners by agreeing to take photos with them.
Embiid's connection with Flamengo isn't new. In 2023, during an interview with the NBA Freestyle program, he revealed that he started supporting Flamengo because of his wife's family: " Actually, I'm a Flamengo fan because my girlfriend's father is a fan . Since we started dating, I've been following the team," he said.
In January 2024, when Flamengo held a preseason training camp in Philadelphia, Embiid met Léo Pereira and Matheus Gonçalves . The defender even posted a photo with the star: " Nice to meet you, brother ." Thus, the relationship between Joel Embiid and Flamengo continues to grow, uniting basketball and soccer in a connection that already transcends borders.
