Eternal football legend, four-time world champion Zagallo, died this Friday (6/1) at the age of 92. The idol received a series of tributes on social media from players and former players of the Brazilian team. From the squad of the tetra, won in 1994, in the United States, the farewells have been more personal.

Bebeto, Taffarel and Ricardo Rocha, who published a video shouting “I love you, Zagallo”, are some of the former athletes from the historic squad saying goodbye to their former coach. In addition to them, other world champion figures also posted photos with the Old Wolf. From the “current generation”, Vinícius Júnior, Casemiro and Thiago Silva also posted tributes.

See some of these tributes:

Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo was born on August 9, 1931, in Atalaia. He started his career at América-RJ, his favorite club. Afterwards, he moved to Flamengo, the team in which he won the third Rio championship (1953, 1954 and 1955). After Rubro-Negro, he went to Botafogo, a club where he once again won state titles, in addition to the Taça Brasil.

For the Brazilian team, Zagallo was present in the 1958 and 1962 World Cups, won by Brazil .

After retiring from the field in 1966, he began his career as a coach at Botafogo's youth team. He coached the Fogão professional on four occasions, Flamengo three times, Vasco on two occasions, as well as Fluminense, Al-Hilal, Bangu and Portuguesa.

Zagallo was the coach of the iconic 1970 Brazilian team, three-time world champion in Mexico. He was Parreira's coordinator in 1994, a World Cup that Brazil also won, in the United States, and runner-up as coach of the National Team in 1998, in France. He worked on the 2006 World Cup, again on Parreira's technical committee.

With two titles won as a coach and two as a player, he is the World Cup record holder, as well as being one of the three people who won the World Cup of the World both as a player and coach.

Victory to respect

Despite being a competition to open the season, Flamengo's victory gives a boost to the season. After all, Minas is the team to beat in Brazilian women's volleyball. Thus, in the last five Superligas, the Belo Horizonte team won four titles and one runner-up. In the squad, there are athletes who have played for the Brazilian team, such as Thaísa, Olympic champion and bronze medalist in this year's edition, in Paris.

Superliga

The dates of the Women's Super League have not yet been announced. However, there is an expectation that the competition will start in October. In total, 12 teams will play the tournament, in a round-robin system, with the eight best qualifying for the quarter-finals.

In the last edition, after all, Flamengo was eliminated by Praia Clube in the semi-final . Therefore, the goal for 2024/25 is to reach the decision and repeat the title won in 2000/01, when Rubro-Negro beat Vasco, in a historic decision at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

FIFA will announce the venues for the 2025 Super Club World Cup this Saturday (28). The announcement will be made during the Global Citizen Festival. The event will be held in Central Park, New York. FIFA did not detail how many cities and stadiums will host the 2025 edition. This will be the first time that the tournament will feature 32 teams.

The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. This is because Atlético-MG and Botafogo are fighting for the last South American place in the competition — the Libertadores title gives them the place. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.

What will the Super Mundial be like?

< The competition organized by FIFA will be played for the first time with 32 teams next year. The United States will host the first edition of the tournament in this format. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups with four teams each, with them facing each other in a single round. The top two in each group will advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage will be played in a single game.

The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.

In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Romário discussed details of the series "Romário, o Cara", which portrays the period lived by the little guy in the 1994 World Cup qualifiers up to the world title. When asked about the teammate who understood him best on the field, Romário was categorical.

"The best guy who understood me as a striker was Bebeto", said Romário. In the United States Cup, the duo scored eight goals together, and Romário, number 11, was chosen as the star of the competition. The partnership between the two players is remembered to this day as one of the most efficient in the history of Brazilian football. /p>

In the series produced by Max, Romário reveals his combative personality. In the very first episode, he says: "I like peace, but I function more in war." Known for his frankness and firmness, Romário does not hide his combative side. "I'm a calm guy, in my own way. I like to live my life, my business. But there aren't any idiots here. If you want a fight, you want a war, there will be one. It's like that", he explained.

WHERE TO WATCH THE SERIES

"Romário, o Cara" is a documentary series divided into six episodes, exploring the trajectory of one of the greatest players in the history of world football. The production focuses on the early 90s, when Romário had a conflictive relationship with the technical committee of the Brazilian team before becoming champion in the 1994 World Cup. The series is available on the Max streaming service in Brazil.
